Angry Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I've already cancelled my Sky HD mix subscription due to the crap picture quality on my Amstrad box, now it looks like I'll be cancelling my Broadband aswell!

What makes my blood boil is the statement onfront of the leaflet sent by Sky, i.e.
"Sky Broadband - now even better. All for the same low price"

".. now even better" ??!! How in any way can a 75% reduction in usage be called "better"

"same low price" ??!!!!! I will be paying double as from January, and even more if I want to avoid a 10GB cap

I'm going to be contacting Trading Standards about this as the statement by sky is as close to lying as you can get.

Also, as others have stated, how can they quote average usage and then tell people they can't provide usage details?

It's just been one price increase after another from Sky - they're going to loose me altogether at this rate - 45 a month going..going..gone!

I refuse to pay ever increasing prices to subsidise ridiculous payments to the Football Association.

I still don't understand. If I don't opt-out of whatever you opt-out of, does it mean we can't change ISPs in the future or something? Because we're thinking about just getting a Freesat HD box and probably o2/be broadband. Does this mean we wouldn't be able to, or we'd have to pay them? What are the advantages of this new thing?

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

If you don't opt out then Sky will change your service onto their equipment in the BT exchange, no other ISP will be able to use this as it is Sky's only.

That means that if you then need to change ISP's you will have to cancel you Sky BB and then wait for your line to be switched back onto the BT equipment which may incur a connetction charge and will incur upto 20 days downtime for the BB and maybe even 5-10 days for the phone.

My advice is to opt out, don't put all your eggs in one basket, keep the option of switching easily if needed.

Personally, I don't and wouldn't recommend using Sky for my line rental either.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

I noticed today that my service has been updated in 'my sky' from max to unlimited upto 20 meg.

Well if I was on an upto 20 meg service, I would get the full 20 meg as I live just down the road from the exchange, so this statement is a lie as I still can only get 16 meg.

I wonder if I rang them and complained would they increase my speed?

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Well that's us opted out of the Sky Voice service. But what is this about a 100% increase in BB cost in January? I have not seen that anywhere.
I was thinking of switching one of the household mobile phones to Orange to tke advantage of their free BB and 'orange wednesday' cinema offers. Their BB package looks very similar to the old sky 'mid' that I was on... up to 8Mbps download speed and 10gb download limit and it is 'free'. I do not want to pa for the sky 'unlimited' package as I live too far from the exchange to get any better than 512kbps, according to the checkers, but in reality since I switched to sky have been getting up to 2.5Mbps download speed. Don't know why, but afraid I will lose the speed if I switch to Orange. A dilemma.

If you don't have Sky Talk, then broadband prices are different as from January 2010 - if you are getting the credit on your account at the moment.

      Sky Base - 0
Sky Mid / Everyday - 10 new price or 5 with Sky Talk
Sky Max / Unlimited - 15 new price or 10 with Sky Talk iirc
