What? You're going to have to pay 30 a month more due to the changes?

Also, are you saying you subscribed to Sky's "SH1TTY tv", as you put it, just to get their mid broadband? We live in strange times...

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

Yup even with tv the broadband and phone worked out cheaper than with anyone else so yeah I did take out tv in order to get the broadband.

We don't all live in major conurbations down south with large choices of companies to choose from. No o2, be, virgin etc to go to.

So having waited and waited and waited and seen the dates put back and put back, last time for a year, I gave up on ever getting O2.

Other than that the others are BT (hugely expensive) Talk Talk (Bad rep and LLU) or Sky (keeping BT line and with 40gb dlds) which had the same cap as talk talk (so in line with the competition they aint anymore). That's it folks, choice over.

Tv was just a consequence of it. Economically it made sense here.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

      boristhespie,

I joined Sky for exactly the same reasons as you, except I'm a footy fan and worked out I'd save money by staying in with a few cans rather than go down the pub and paying 3 a pint during the game. I went for the HD and Max BB and have been very impressed by both. I guess it's a matter of opinion but I reckon the TV side of things is pretty good. We don't watch Sky1 etc. but my 7 year old son loves the kids channels and Nat Geo Wild HD (something we can watch as a family).

Oh yeah, my wife got our old TV in the bedroom which helped sell the deal

So what's the bundled price if you replace Mid with Max? 35? (Just a guess...)

If you challenge them on the fact that your package is no longer what you signed up for then they have three choices:
      - let you cancel the lot and replace with a different package (i.e. how much is your TV + phone + BB at today's prices?)
      - let you cancel BB only and go somewhere else. But if you do that, you may not be able to get BB from another provider if Sky hold the phone line.
      - let you upgrade the BB to Unlimited for a fiver - or less if you're lucky. I'm suspect CS reps have the authority to throw in the odd month for free, so why not push for 2 months credit @ 30, then you are no worse off over a 12 month period.

These new deals have just given me the equivalent of a tenner in my pocket by increasing Sky Talk line rental to 11, as that puts my discount up by 1 a month for the next 10 months. I suspect they will get it back at some stage with a price increase elsewhere. Some you win, some you lose...

The July Sky magazine was delivered today. The only reasons the "Broadband changes" pamphlet was not thrown away with the 4 pieces of junk mail that came with it was because :
      1. I check post for any personal details so it can be shredded before disposal.
& 2. I was expecting the pamphlet beforehand thanks to this forum..
The pamphlet looks very much like a sales brochure with the "important changes" part in very small typeface compared to the title.
I wouldn't be surprised if most people who already have Sky bb assume it is a sales pitch for those without Sky bb and just bin it.
( assuming you receive it in the first place )
I would have thought a better idea would be to mention the exact changes on the "Notice of changes to subscription payments/services" as this has the subscribers details on it and within the Sky mag as a main item as these are more likely to be read. ( Although in my case, the Sky mag was binned with the junk mail. )
      Just my opinion...
      Alex

I cant recall seeing any positive results yet, although I think its currently only being applied to new customers. Us rabble will have to wait until the 1st August if I've interpreted things correctly.

im getting the new speeds now after speaking to sky cst a few days back been upgraded for a few days and its been perfect, no line drops or anything i think my exchange was one of the first to get changed as i was on dlm early june... could be wrong tho

stats from ext ( not much difference between the test socket )
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 19055 kbps 1022 kbps
