am i likely to gain from the current changes here is my stats
You have slightly better stats than I do, and I get faster than you. Theoretically I would hazard a guess that you could get about 7meg against the 6.1meg you have now. As for upload, yes, that should be possible as well to get a little faster, I think.

Its not the kit its your telephone line length, (your attenuation) that determines the speed.

I would bet that you should see at least 7meg down, possibly more.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

You should get better than mine, (which is approx 7meg) my attenuation is 2 more than yours at 45db.

Which basically means your telephone line is shorter, therefore nearer to the exchange than mine is.

shouldn't there technology recognise this and automatically change things also if i called sky wouldn't they agree also that i should be receiving 7meg at the moment before regrade.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

It doesn't really matter what technology is available, your line is physically a set length. You may stretch your speed slightly by using ADSL2+ etc (Which I think is what Sky are doing) but then you risk the issues of having loads of errors etc when this is increased.

Sky use DLM and this is the reason why, it monitors your line at different settings etc and so in theory should give you the most stable speed, in terms of download, and upload etc which results in less errors.

I would rather have stability than dropping the connection, or downloading the same thing loads of times, due to the errors etc building up.

Some would say DLM hampers lines, which is probably true if you lived nearer the exchange.

I still think you should be faster than you currently are, but I don't know the technicalities of what Sky may or not have tried previously on your line.

Re: Sky Broadband Changes - 22nd June

my father who used to be a line engineer states that he can do no more to remove noise from
internal connection we have a old fashioned copper line which performs much better than most of the new builds around me with some of them only getting just over 2mb

still think things could be better if there are problems with the line then i think bt need to take a look between me and cabinet

I don't think there are issues with your line, I just think you have been given a slightly slower speed than what you could get.

How long have you been connected?

Has it been faster than that before?

Is it the same stats in the test socket?

So what has your father done exactly?
Every bodies land line(from the exchange) is copper, with a few exceptions of where BT tried using aluminium, and their TPON experiment.
