      Up and running

I must say I was surprised at how much power my main PC is using. It has convinced me to switch it off when I am not using it, it used to run 24/7. I have not checked what it is using sleep mode yet.

      Re: Operation Save Energy

Yay mine came yesterday but adult kids wouldn't answer door to postie. SO I had to collect from Post office this morning. ( Just wait till the next parcels arrive for them)
Any ways I have that many cables to my meter I am spoilt for choice, So I aimed for one of the tails between the meter and consumer unit. Seems to work any way.
Now what about setting the tariff? According to my Npower bill I am on 3 different tarrifs!.
      ANy ideas ?

There is a bit in the instructions advising how to set more than one tarrif.

Nice to see that they are arriving. Hopefully, you can all save some electricity now.

I have been consciously turning off the lights etc and not leaving the TV on standby and so on.

I believe Glenn has made some serious cost savings so far. But that's for him to tell you about.

      Re: Operation Save Energy

I got mine today too. (Thanks again Sky)

And I am also on 2 different tarrifs.

      First 338 units at 16.48p
      remainder at 9.99p

So what do I set it to?
I rang EDF & they say all suppliers do this, the more expensive ones are becaus I have to pay for 900 units throughout the year at the higher price, something to do with EDF renting Norwebs wires.
I offered to use a single extension lead back to them

And the instructions are about as useful as a chocolate teapot!

Also - Whats all the appliance numbers & how to use them?

      Monitoring & providing feedback:
How would you recommend we do this?
Monitor for a month making no changes, then make changes to see what we save?

Also, anyone know anything about the batteries in the main uni - how long hey are likely to last?
I'm surprised the monitor is mains powered only, makes it kinda hard to go round & swithc things on while watching it.

      Re: Operation Save Energy

It appears that the appliance numbers are for a future development of an "individual appliance monitor" that has not been released yet.

The makers say it runs off mains as there is an environmental cost in using batteries, however if you want to turn on an applaiance & watch its effect you have to unplug & nearer take it to it (arms are only so long ) at which point, it loses the current time (or the time stops & needs updating when plugged in again).

So it needs to be plugged in all the time. That is contrary to an environmentally designed product.
I'd expect it to have a capacitor as memory backup at the very least, methinks I'll be mailing the makers

As I sit in the lounge watching it (its better than watching Eastenders) I can see it vary as something is switched on/off but I cant tell what - maybe I need to use a long extension lead or make a battery pack for it

      Re: Operation Save Energy

'm also on the dual tarrif with EDF, something like 25.4p for the first 900 and then 9.5 (inc VAT) Just set it to 13p, which I worked out is the average cost for normal consumption, averaged over the year, or leave it set at the supplied 13.9p to really scare the kids....

The mains issue is the only downside TBH - Most, if not all of the others are battery powered, which is ideal if you are hunting out the culprits!

      Re: Operation Save Energy

      Hi everyone,

      Got mine yesterday....thanks guys!!!!

It's weired but even the wife is now checking how much things cost us as she turns things on during the day.

I'm not sure we waste that much but is good to see how much energy items use.

These should be built in to every home!!!

      Thanks again
