Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Last year we reported about Sky and their 'truly unlimited package' Sky Broadband Max.

Now, it would appear that Sky are about to up the ante, and increase the Max package for some users, with their latest (unconfirmed) letter, sent to an existing Sky Max customer.

Currently Sky provide Max on an upto 16meg proviso, does this mean that Sky are now going to utilize their current technology and begin to offer 'upto 24meg' broadband?

Below was posted in our forums, earlier this evening, and has now been copied here, to allow discussion.

      I quote:-

      "Improvements to Sky Broadband Max
Unlike most other broadband providers, Sky Broadband already offers a truly unlimited broadband experience. Soon we will be giving our customers even faster speeds, resulting in better value - watch out for more information. Sky Broadband Max is only available to customers in our network area."

I think if you live near the exchange or you get a second phone line.

Or give up the phone line system which one using now, and going to look forward for a cabel operator. (dreaming)

A suggestion given to me this evening.

Is that this could be the start of Sky selling FTTC which would be available from BT Openreach soon.

Is this effectively BT Wholesale WBC (21CN) related? If so my exchange was upgraded about 2 weeks ago, and i live about 0.7km from exchange....

      this is exciting...

About time, I was always puzzled by the 'up to 16mb', is there any reason it was up to this figure, and how could Be offer 24meg?

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

i can see the exchange from my window... So hopefully i will get this speed increase!

When i first got max, i was getting 17mb, even though its up to 16mb... then they cut it down to 8mb and said that I was never receiving it... even though I was...

If we look at the Text:

Doesn't say some customers. To me that implies all Sky Max customers. Would this be using BT's 21CN?

      From BT's 21CN Website:

Wholesale Ethernet services started running on 21CN in January 2008 and in April 2008 BT Wholesale introduced its next generation broadband service which will enable BTís customers - the CPs - to meet demand from their customers for new feature-rich multimedia and multi-play services. Expected to reach potentially 10million end users by April 2009, Wholesale Broadband Connect will progressively rollout across the country. Where end users are connected to a 21CN broadband-enabled exchange, communication providers will be able to choose to supply end users with products and services based on BTís next generation broadband wholesale service.

Be use similar technology, and so technically Sky's LLU network should be more than capable of this and possibly more. I think the reason Sky chose to go the upto 16meg route, is in reality, only about 10% of the UK could get this speed or higher.

That's what makes this news more interesting. I can only get 7meg tops, and so is it aimed at people like me? Or those at the exchange's front or backdoor?

Those with letters, what sort of current speed do you get?
