its not to far in the future for some of us at least? my question is how is sky going to benefit from the infrastructure IE: FTTC will sky need to pay bt wholesale to use the network or will sky go its own route and lay fibre also i would imagine sky would want to stay as independent in there network and not have piggy back other networks

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Sky were going to, thinking of, or are laying fibre, in London Docklands.

Also if Sky were smart they would be involved in the technology / process of laying fibre in the sewers.

Perhaps BT and Sky share fibre?

It could be absolutely anything tbh and I am fairly sure that this news is about offering bigger headline speeds for their current technology. ie 'upto 24meg' - I have had a PM suggesting that it may be on the condition that your line is DLM'ed which would make sense, as any potential issues would be noticed on the higher speeds.

We have asked Sky to comment, but nothing so far.

Why on earth would BT do Hemel Hempsted in the 1st run?
It's a fairly small town compared to the rest of the county.

As for the 10million homes by 2012 I expect all the major cities to be done and some smaller places if they are lucky.

In Stevenage (35,000+ houses) we have only had LLU since Feb 2007 with Sky and Be going in at the same time so I expect us to be done about 2020 for fibre to cabinet.

Didn't Hemel Hempstead suffer with a lot of aluminium lines, maybe they are taking the opportunity to remove them and upgrade at the same time.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

got the letter as i came in, came on here to see if anyone had any idea.

i currently get 15mb from the max line, it's a new build (built in 2000) and i think i am less than a km from the exchange as the crow flies so it is good for me.

my letter was slightly different from the one posted, mine has the BT price hike at 12.50 as i am a sky talk customer and then the big Sky BB upgrade, also something about a hike in skytalk call charges and 118SKY.

if they do go up to FTTC or 24mbs does this mean their VOD service is going live soon as well seeing as they are meant to be doing something with Sony with DLC?

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

If it is just a case of increasing the sync to 24Mb then my current sync of 3448Kb on Sky Max after the increase will probably be......oh wait till I work this out............................................... ......3448Kb

      ^^^^^^^^^^

Don't believe everything Speedtest.net tells you btw, to get that you would have to sync at over 18000kbps, if you are, someone at Sky is looking to join the dole queue.
