Some members have had their speeds increased above 16mb/800kb, but no one seems to know why. It could be by accident, as even our tame Sky agents don't seem to be aware of what is happening. I have seen the suggestion that DLM is doing it, even if it is not set to do so.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

This is going to sound like a really stupid question but it keeps playing on my mind since this post started, by any chance does this tie in with 21CN? The only reason i ask is that the principle behind that is to effecivly increase the output signal to the average home over the existing PSTN granting the fabled 24Mb connection to more homes, I realise that sky uses LLU meaning the signal is rerouted via the sky backbone instead of BT but as i originally said it just seems odd that sky are upping the ante now as BT are starting to rollout 21CN............. *breathes*

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Sky are currently using that technology, that's why they have their own equipment in the LLU exchanges.

      BT are playing catch-up.

The reason why it is not yet up to the 24mb is that Sky are holding it back (the Easynet network which Sky purchased does do 24mb and it is the same equipment that Sky's LLU customers are on).

Very few people on the network will get 24mb but if they advertise it many will want it so it saves some awkward questions, the uploads speeds should increase for many more customers though, we are just waiting for Sky to push the magic button.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Your line should easily get the 16mb mark.

If you ring again after 10:30pm you should get through to CST.

For now, I would just hang up, if you want, you could try again until you get someone who has a clue what they are talking about but I would wait until 10:30pm.

What speed will the upstream go to once sky finally uncap to the full 24mb.
Isn't it something like 1.3mb, at least it is with something like Be. Just a thought.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

I hope I will get a speed increase as I was under the impression mine was at least 8MB but after running a few tests it's actually 3.5 which is so disappointing.

If a faster speed is available are you automatically upgraded or do you have to phone them to enable it hence also opening up a new 12 month contract?

I also incidently haven't recieved the letter being mentioned, starting to sound unlikely it will come.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Airwaves, start your own thread with your router stats on and let's see what is happening.

      More people will see it.

As for getting the higher speeds, if you are already getting the best speed for your line then you will get no more, this will only speed up those connections that are currently capped at 16mb which could go faster (there's only a handfull of these)

Upload speeds may increase for people who are syncing at over 2mb though
