Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

If you're being transfered onto the new network then your broadband will be configured for your package maximim (2/8/16Mb) as there is no DLM on this yet. A few bad Max lines will be configured at 8Mb, but they're unlikly to get near that anyway.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

OK I've just been trying to catch up on this topic - its a struggle sifting through so many pages!

I note the New Voice & Broadband Network link says
When will I be transferred to the Sky Voice & Broadband Network?

We’ve been building our new network for some time, and now it’s ready we’re adding new and existing customers who take both Sky Talk and Sky Broadband customers from May/June 2009. All existing customers who are happy to move will be transferred before the end of the year.
It makes more sense to me if this applies to people who rent their line from Sky rather than BT, but that isn't what it says here.

I haven;t had a letter yet as about the new network, just the sky talk update that mentioned BB in passing (way back at start of thread)

I'm currently on the max package with Sky Talk, and with a line attenuation of 51db and noise margin of about 7-10 I'm getting a max of 3768kbps downstream, upstream 468 and is deifnitely capped (I remember an engineer telling me this when I got the max pings changed for gaming). At sometimes during the day download speeds can drop below 3meg and I know my cordless phone creates quite a bit of noise, so need to sort that out!

I'm currently renting the line form BT not Sky.

So quesiton is will these new network changes eventually apply to me or not? If they do, will they really make much difference on my speeds? (I'm thinking not, but am always hopeful!).......also should I switch and rent the line from Sky? ill that make any difference at all (other than slight cost difference)?

      thanks all

It's a change within the exchage. Nothing changes with the line itself so you stats will remain static.
What will happen is that your current line settings will be removed and set to the package default when you are transfered to the new broadband equipment.

so on the positive front any caps there may be (up or downstream) will get reset, but on the negative side I willl haev to go through teh rigmarole of getting my max delay settings changed again?.....ho-hum...

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

I am kind of confused, My broadband speed started at 4meg a sec for two days now I know that is the starting speed but after the two days it went to the full 16meg a sec and it was rock solid but after two days it dropped to 13 for a day and now it is sitting at 10.
Will my speed go back to the full 16meg a sec? Also if the speeds do go up will I see more than 16 meg?

Connection Speed 10237 kbps 848 kbps
Line Attenuation 19 db 9 db
Noise Margin 18 db 7 db

Do I complain to get my speeds back up or will they just do it them selfs?
      Thank you in advance.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Dlm is still running on your line, so your speed should go back up. Keep your router plugged in and powered up for a few more days. If it does not go back, Sky will fix it manually. You should get over 16 Mb quite easily.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

I don't think you can ask for an increase, well you can, but you are unlikely to get it. It seems Sky are working their way through their connections and it just depends on where you are on the list.
