Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

OK, so I received my new filtered faceplate from ADSL Nation and fitted it last week. The following stats were taken before fitting the faceplate -

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 667555 1155846 0 526 12090 35:44:16
      LAN 100M/Full 1326019 871930 0 12526 954 35:45:06
      WLAN 11M/54M 8653 0 0 15 0 35:44:54
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 23 db 12 db
Noise Margin 10 db 10 db

...And here are my new stats -

      System Up Time: 109:50:00
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 10911 14498 0 92 749 05:48:02
      LAN 100M/Full 2263459 2095709 0 4189 904 109:49:55
      WLAN 11M/54M 57907 30762 0 131 13 109:49:42
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 23 db 12 db
Noise Margin 11 db 17 db

So a change in the upstream Noise Margin, and only a slight change in the Downstream.
My stats are not bad I hear you say, but is there anyway I can improve the Downstream noise margin?

      Cheers....Rob.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

As your noise margin is nearly double Sky's default you have nothing to gain. Speeds will not increase and you already have the maximum that Sky offer, at least for now.

Short of moving closer to the exchange I doubt there is anything else you could do.

BT are the ones who maintain the external line and I doubt they will want to look into replacing it, this is the only thing that could inprove your stats more.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

I'd assume broadband (LLU) customers will remain unaffected by this unless they take Sky Talk.
I would hope it will only apply to those with Sky Line Rental. If not I don't think Sky have the right to take over your line and make it MPF. They do have the decency to point out that moving to another ISP will not be quite as straight forward, similar to those on TalkTalk, Tiscali Bulldog and other MPF suppliers, where there have been problems in the past. I am with Sky Talk but not Rental, I will wait and see if I get a letter.

16Mbps, at least...you're on the new start speed so leave the router on and it should adjust...

You may find it is just a couple of days, it depends on how stable your line is. Keep the router plugged in and it will reboot itself, probably once a day, till you get the full speed.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

So what does all this mean to people on sky talk and are being transfered? I can understand the phone part, but they sent out letters saying that some should see new faster speeds, (I got one of those letters) but they haven't mentioned anything about broadband speeds on that new network page, so is it going to happen or was that just to tempt people out of canceling the transfer?

      MadS,
