Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Thanks for the info mate, it is appreciated. I have been onto SKY about my download speed in the last week, and they are saying that it has been configured at that speed to guarantee connection reliability. My call log went to the Customer Solutions Team who apparently reconfigured my line. I don't think that happened.........To be fair to SKY, I've not had any disconnects and the connection has been excellent since activation. Maybe I should quit while I'm ahead? However, I would love to up the the speed! You've said before that my line can handle more. I'm not interested in upload speed (don't do gaming etc) so should I really get back onto SKY? I don't want to end up with higher speeds, and then have an unreliable connection.

      Cheers.....RobTheMod.

With those stats I would expect 16mb.

      It's worth a call.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

Called up and spoke to a very nice Scottish lady, but no good. Can't squeeze anymore out of my line. They reckon that even though I'm 0.9km (not as the crow flies) from the exchange, the cabling is probably much longer.

So here's to my 13.3. Have I been fobbed off?

Nice Scottish lady or not, she is wrong. Your attenuation shows your line is probably under 1.5K, which should give you 16 Mb with ease and with a noise margin of 8dbs over the default, there does not appear to be a fault on your line. If you had a noise margin of 7dbs or less I could see the point of a cap, but you are well over this. Try and get through again maybe you will get someone who is prepared to try.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

i find it very hard to believe that wat u say about sky simply having to move a slider up to increase the speed of the line from 16MB to a higher speed seeing as my work mate is the local network technician for the areas exhanges. He has said that before increased speeds can be applied to a broadband package, the local exhange must first be updated with the broadband companies server syncs and data flows which allow the newer speeds. He says that it cant just be done by moving a slider up to increase speed especial as not all exchanges are enabled for higher speeds on every broadband package.

Anyway - thanks for previous info - someone let us know when they hear about a new speed beingput in place.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

The Sky LLU equipment in the BT exchanges is already designed to go to 24mb. In fact some of it already is as it is the same equipment that Sky bought when they purchased easynet, they already have upto 24mb customers using the same equipment.

The only thing holding the upto 24mb back is that Sky have put a cap on it to 16mb, it should be as described just a case of removing it across the board.

BT's equipment on the otherhand, well that's a different kettle of fish.

Re: Sky Broadband Max - New Faster Speeds?

You can disbelieve me if you want, Smithy has already explained the situation. BT and their employees, are very reluctant to admit that Sky and some other LLU providers already have the equipment in the exchanges they have unbundled. They are too busy trumpeting about the miserable number of exchanges they have upgraded to 21CN. This is just another name for ADSL2+ which is present in any exchange which Sky and other ISPs have unbundled. They should have called it 20CN if they were honest, as it is not 21 Century technology.

The only ones who may benefit from BT's 21CN are users on Connect, should Sky agree to pay for the extra speed.
