Current Rumours For Sky - January 2009
Over the last few weeks there have been several rumours doing the rounds regarding what Sky may or not do in the future.
Here's a roundup of everything that we have received over the last few weeks. It is quite possible, that some of these suggestions, may not be true.
Multiple Multiroom and Sky+HD subscriptions for a single fee
This was inferred that instead of having separate Multiroom and HD Subscriptions for each box, there would be just one fee. Whilst discussing this, the impression was that, this was to be done on a region by region basis, possibly to combat the Digital Switch-over. This could also account for why Sky are taking on so many installers. Reports on our forums suggest that Sky are planning to announce something at the end of January, which may or not be relevant to this rumour.
We forwarded a request to Sky, 5th January, regarding the Multiroom and HD Subscriptions rumour and have since received the following reply, "I’ve checked with someone and can confirm that there are no current plans to change multiroom or HD subscriptions for a single fee." Which pretty much rules this one out.
Sky+HD Boxes to be reduced to £49 - (confimed)
This has now been confirmed in February's Sky Mag, although the start of offer date, has yet to be announced. The deal is £49 for the Sky+HD box, with £10 pm HD subscription, free standard installation if you take out Multiroom at £10 per month per STB (with no Multiroom installation costs £30. Sky also require that you commit to another 12 months TV subscription, if an existing customer) See the details here.
Sky+HD Subscriptions being dropped - (unconfirmed)
We are under the impression that there are no current plans for this to happen.
Sky are to launch NVN (New Voice Network) - (unconfirmed)
Not a lot of information to report on this, but the impression we get, is that this will apply to exchanges that currently have (or are getting) Sky LLU equipment. This would basically allow Sky to have their own Telephony products and no longer rely on Wholesale Line Rental. WLR (according to WikiPedia) is whereby a supplier would rent multiple phone lines from BT at a reduced rate, and then pass these savings on to their customers. Obviously with Sky now cutting this process out, theoretically as no rental is payable, calls could be cheaper. Although that is pure speculation on my behalf.Last edited by NewsreadeR; 28-01-09 at 02:59 PM.

Re: Current Rumours For Sky - January 2009
It would appear that Currys are doing the £49 offer, for new and existing customers, if you buy a HDTV. I think also for an existing Customer you have to sign up to Multiroom.
Not sure if they would wave the HDTV side of it

Re: Current Rumours For Sky - January 2009
i didnt have long to read the small print because i was in a hurry but im pretty sure it said £60 for existing customers to install... so its £110 all together...
but if its in currys as well the deal must be connected like buy a nice HD telly and well will give you a nice HD box for 50 quid?....
the multiroom bit i dunno about but if its 50 quid i might ask my mum if she can get it for me for my bday...! because i have a nice sony telly but rubbish signal for freeview!
hmm i wonder if their is a special deal on normal sky plus boxes?
