Sky Pass On Vat Rate Drop For Most Products

On Sky's website, they are now stating:

Sky is committed to ensuring that customers benefit from the reduction in UK VAT. Prices are being reduced on Sky TV subscriptions and we’re also reducing our charges for other products and services where UK VAT is applicable (and prices are not already discounted).

The price reduction will apply to the following products and services:

      ·*Sky TV, Multiroom, Sky+ and Sky+HD subscriptions
·*A la carte channels such as MUTV and Chelsea TV
      ·*Sky Box Office
      ·*Sky Player
      ·*Sky boxes including Sky+ and Sky+HD boxes*
      ·*Installation and service call charges*
      ·*Sky Pay Once Watch Forever
      ·*Freesat from Sky
      *Except where already discounted

Sky have also added a matrix to show the new pricing:

There is also a fairly comprehensive Q&A section

How is Sky implementing the changes?

We are reducing the price of all applicable products and services to reflect the reduction in VAT. To keep things simple, we’ll continue to apply rounded pricing. For example, in the UK, customers will receive either a 50p or £1 per month reduction in their TV packages, and 25p off their HD or Multiroom subscriptions.

We will apply a credit to your account for applicable products and services to cover the initial period after December 1st.

Some of our products and services, such as Sky Broadband subscriptions and Sky Talk charges, are not subject to the standard rate of UK VAT - and are therefore not affected by the recent change. Other products and services have already been discounted to below cost price and therefore will not be reduced further. Where our services are billed by a third party, we are working to reduce these prices too.

Should I pay a bill that I've already received?

Yes, please pay any bill you get in full. If the bill is for a product or service where the price is being reduced and covers any period after 1 December 2008, we will work out the saving and credit this back to your Sky account.

What if I've paid for a service in advance?

If you have already paid for a service not due to be provided until after 1 December 2008, any applicable saving will be credited back to your Sky account in the future.

Can I work out the new amount and reduce my payment to you?

No, please pay the full amount and let us work out the discount (where applicable) which we will credit back to your account.

You can read the full details here.

According to the above matrix, I am now £2.75 a month better off. I think I may just book that dream Florida holiday now, with my £33 savings. Good job I am a loyal customer or I would be £27 a year worse off

Hmmm! No mention of the cut-price multiroom for those without a premium channel package.

Angry So Sky are actually putting up their prices!

I've been paying £38 for ages...

Take off the 17.5% VAT and that makes £32.34 ex VAT.

So now add on the new 15% VAT and that comes to £37.19.

So why are Sky going to charge me £37.50 ??? It's an automated billing system, I'm sure my credit card can handle the 19p, not as though it has to rummage around for loose change.

I know it's not a lot, but that's not the point. Sky have put up their price. Without the VAT cuts, Sky wouldn't have done that.
