      Fair comment Red.

If Sky were to offer the discounted price for all existing customers before 25th November, there is no need for anyone to be unhappy. Not just those who joined within the last 6 months.

If that many people are on Sky Talk anyway, less the ones who have signed up in the last six months, it cannot cost them that much to keep everyone happy.

By Jan 2010, prices would be dearer across the board I would have thought, and we wouldn't need to consider changing ISP's or being forced into a product that we may or not want.

To be honest, my Sky TV package has seen two price increases since 2006 and now comes the broadband increase. I was thinking about leaving then, but I think they have confirmed that they no longer need me.

Re: Update on Sky Broadband pricing changes

I must admit, Sky is getting very expensive now for the top package:

      47pm for Sky World
      15pm for Sky Max
      10pm for HD
72pm for the full whack and that's without multiroom for families.

Problem is, for me there is no alternative in my area other than Sky. I can't make use of my mobile for a broadband deal as that is already used up on my second broadband line (well my parents, but sush, dont tell anyone).

the news would have been more acceptable if sky had announced a price increase of 5 for all new accounts in march 2009 and all current customers being increased either 2010 or last quarter of 2009

but when do sky raise prices logically

Sky has a very challenging ARPU (average revenue per user) target and all the senior managers bonuses (and jobs probably) are dependent on reaching it (together with EBITDA). At an operational level it's cost to serve and other volumetrics - measures such as customer satisfaction and retention are much less important. Retention can wait whilst growth is strong and customer satisfaction is too "soft" a measure for the big guns at Sky.

Re: Update on Sky Broadband pricing changes

This seems a bit silly to me, I don't have Sky Talk as I'm tied to BT, so Sky are going to increase my Mid Package by 5, unless I move to Sky Talk, but the basic Sky Talk is FREE!!!.

So basically if I move from BT to Sky Talk they won't make any more money from me anyway so why not just keep the Mid broadband the same price?

Seems they haven't thought this through, a lot of people will probably move to the free Sky Talk and Sky will lose all those potential 5 increases.

They rip you off on the charges for phone calls, that's where they'll get the extra revenue from.

Putting aside the actual increase this is what really gets my goat. I guess the only reason they are doing this is because they see the increase unfair on people who have joined within the last six months. Well I'm sorry but I fail to see why they should be exempt from the increase - it should be everyone increased in 2009 or no-one or even everyone in a couple of years, not some now, some later.

Call an 0845 number in the evening and they will charge you 12 times more than BT. They make money by overcharging massively on 0845/0870 numbers.

Re: Update on Sky Broadband pricing changes

If Sky charged a fair rate for calls especially the 0845/0870 which are used pretty much by every business you need to contact then it’d be a no brainer popular choice, but as it stands it’s a double whammy, no way to break out of Sky Talk’s voice network (Indirect Access Calls) and then rip off charges within it.

I think Sky are deluded if they think customers are ignorant of the actual costs incurred and most, like me will be insulted by them and move on to another provider.

Example rates below, anyone from Sky care to explain why an evening 0870 call is 433% or 0845 is 1100% more expensive than BT?

      0845----------------Daytime ----Evening/Night
      Sky 7p connection + 6p/min.--------6p/min.
      BT 6p connection + 2p/min.--------p/min.

      0870----------------Daytime ----Evening/Night
      Sky 7p connection + 10p/min.-------8p/min.
      BT 6p connection + 06p/min.-------1p/min.
