Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

If I may sneak in as a new member, who has just joyfully switched from Tiscali, I have great doubts about the quality of Tiscali's T1. While their service (linespeed, response etc) has been deteriorating, it was noticeable that responses from international websites were significantly worse than UK sites

Well the Easynet network has Tier 1 links at the moment, but I don't know which suppliers are able to use them. Even if Tiscali's T1's are crap they will still want them, as it can only increase network performance.

Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

Any thoughts on what this means for people who were thinking about leaving Sky for Tiscali?

I was interested in the 8 mb/s package which also includes telephone line rental for £14.99 a month with free international calls on the weekend to cerain countries.

Is it worth moving now?

Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

Tiscali do not have the best of reputations as a provider and as you can get Mid+Rental+Limited free calls for £15.50 is it worth it? I suppose it may be if you don't want Sky TV, but then it is your choice. I have an idea that even if Sky buy Tiscali, it will still be run as a separate company.

Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

The congestion with Tiscali is on the BT products it resells.

They have a fair amount of bandwidth readily available on LLU.

I am on their LLU and compared to DataStream, I get the throughput speeds I should get, not 2meg off!!

Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

Are there any updates on the Sky-Tiscali deal?

I really hope it goes ahead, but it's been kept quiet recently.

Re: Sky To Buy Tiscali Broadband?

I think the time scales mentioned were the end of the year. Not long to go now.
