      Update on DLM Trials

Thanks for the great response to our last post which confirmed Sky Broadband Max as the UK’s only truly unlimited product - we hope you’ve been busy downloading.

More recently Sky Broadband was voted as the #1 broadband provider in every category of the BroadbandChoices ISP satisfaction survey, including Quality and Stability. Thank you for this – it’s great to know that customers value our broadband service. But we’re not stopping there – we think we can make it even better.

A lot of our time is spent trialling and testing new ways to make our broadband service even better. Dynamic Line Management (DLM) is a network tool that can help improve the experience of broadband customers by further increasing reliability and overall line performance. DLM is already used by many other major ISPs.

In July this year, we tested DLM with a number of existing Sky Broadband customers’ lines. A large majority of customers on the trial experienced an improvement to their connection stability, resulting in a significant reduction in fault reports. But there were also lessons that we took away from that first trial - including keeping you better informed.

Because we want to understand more about the benefits of DLM, we’re about to start a second trial with new customers joining Sky Broadband over the next two weeks. All customers taking part in the trial have been notified about what this will mean to them.

Once we’ve finished this trial, we’ll analyse the results before deciding on any plans to implement DLM more widely. We will of course keep you updated, and notify any customers whose lines are optimised using DLM in the future.

Meanwhile if you have any further questions please visit Sky.com - Sky Help Centre

      Thanks

      Sky Broadband Team

Could you post up the information that new customer have/wil receive? I ask this because there may be problems, and it would be helpful to know what Sky have said.

The whole DLM process will make everyone's connection a lot more stable, and pin point problems more effectively.

Fingers crossed we will all be singing praises soon, I am already

I second NR. This is very good news for all. I was actually one of the Lucky DLM Guinea pigs back in July and i agree we should have been informed better. Good luck.

Mmm, me being ever the sceptic, would like to know how it is going to make things better for me and others like me who sync at the max possible and have never experienced disconnections ( apart from manually instigated ones ) in over 2 years ?

I hope we dont experience what Saturday did where DLM ruined his perfectly stable connection to the point that he went elsewhere.

I do, however, agree that its good news that Sky have learnt lessons from the previous trial and are informing their customers. Perhaps they could take one step further and allow customers who dont want to be DLM'd to be exempt. After all it has been widely stated that if you are not happy with the results then your connection can be returned to pre DLM status, which for me begs the question - why bother in the first place.

googleme , I identify you as the "optomist in the room" and I claim my £5 !
As long as the "lot more stable" doesn't involve capping my downsync speed down to a rediculous level in order to raise the noise margin enough to prevent re-syncs...
(Re-syncs caused by a flakey ADSL driver in the router firmware.)
I'm curious to know if the "pin point problems" would mean removing existing manual downsync speed caps and setting the appropriate ADSL mode for the line conditions/attenuation.. ie removing the settings set by the DLM Summer trial...
