Re: Netgear V2 New FW Details

My router was upgraded overnight to V2.02.44.

The downstream sync. is very similar to the previous values (7168 kbps / Attn 45 db / Margin 7 db this morning), but there has been a large change in the upstream attenuation:

      V2.02.34 409 kbps / Attn 12 db / Margin 19 db
      V2.02.44 409 kbps / Attn 23 db / Margin 22 db

(The ...34 figures here were consistent over the last couple of months, the ...44 ones steady today so far.)

      Has anyone else noticed this?
Has the way the ADSL spectrum is handled changed in the latest firmware to favour downstream over upstream?

I would think that the new firmware is just reporting it more accurately.

Re: Netgear V2 New FW Details

I have just checked some of the old stats from Zen, i.e. before I migrated to Sky. My SpeedTouch 585 v5 router on ADSL Max reported upstream figures very similar (448 kbps / Attn 24 db / Margin 23 db) to those on the DG934G with the new f/w.

How strange that the earlier f/w should get this so wrong.

Differant routers or the same routers with differant firmware oftern give differant readings, they are only a rough guide.

      Rough guide? Yes, agreed.

But a factor of 2 (12 vs. 23 db) seems to be stretching it a bit.

      Yes it does - odd.

Does it stay that way after a reboot (power cycle preferably)?

Re: Netgear V2 New FW Details

As the value for attenuation depends on how the router measures it (or the firmware) I never set much store by it as an absolute value. What is more useful is any variation over time using the same router, as this can indicate a line fault.
