Personally, I think any ISP that advertises an "unlimited" service has no right to moan about or cap even people who are downloading hundreds of GB's a month. If they want or need to do that, they simply should not advertise it as unlimited, plain and simple.

But the reality is that they do and the ASA have, in most instances, backed them up on their definition of "Unlimited" and we're all aware of the definition in ADSL Broadband terms. Also, Sky do not make any secret of their Fair Usage Policy.

hi guys nice forum first post hehehe iv just phones sky up cos i got me code and asked em about there fair usage policy and they said they r introducing a 350gb monthly useage policy cos people r downloadinf 1000's of gbs a month he didnt say when it will be introduced tho.
so they said i will have my router and that in 5 days and all i do is connect it up and off i go is this correct he told me my line was all set to get sky broadband now???

Yes mate, that's correct. If your DSL has already been activated on the line, you'll just have to install the software on the CD provided. (basically just keep clicking "Next") and connect your router. The router comes aready pre set to SkyBB settings.
That's it. Ethel's yer aunty, you should be online
Thanks for the heads up on the FUP. A bandwidth limit of 350GB is not too shabby at all. I can live with that.

do i really need to install there software ?? is it like the aol software full of rubbish i dont like the macfee software there offering iv got norton internet security 2005 can i use that is it compatable???

No, you don't have to install the McAfee software. You can chose to omit it. Infact I would recommend that you don't install it. I did and it caused no end of probs. I unistalled it and the probs went away. You'll also be asked if you want to install IE with the SkyBB portal. I wouldn't bother with that either as all it does is set your homepage to the SkyBB portal.

I must be a godsend to isp's as like newsreader i only dl less than 5gb. i do occasionally use utorrent but i guess i'm just selective as to what i download, this prob comes from times when i only had a 20meg hd and every file was checked for necessity before down loading it not afterwards like today.

Bizarrely I prefer a useage limit (I've ordered the 40 Gb Limit) because at least that has a maximum number on it. If I don't have a limit I would always be wondering if I was going to breach it...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but 350 Gb is about 50 (?) movies - 100 hours of film - 4 hours a day.
I'm suprised some of you guys have time to post here!
... Of course, you are posting while you are watching the movie?
