      Sony's GO!View launches with Sky

Sky and Sony have partnered to bring content to the Sony PSP, which includes, films, and TV Series. It looks like their website has now gone live, you can register and then choose which package to subscribe to.

As previously thought, the content cannot be downloaded straight to the PSP, and is dependent on a Windows XP or Vista enabled PC. Which then means that you have to transfer the content from the PC to the PSP via a USB cable. How annoying is that?

At the moment, one months free access is offered on the 10 subscription, which gives access to Entertainment, Sports and Comedy. For 5 a month you would get one channel, two channels for 8 and all three for 10 per month. There is also a per download price of between 2.50 and 3.50 for films and some other content

A downloaded program / film is roughly about 500MB per hour in size, and so a PSP with an 8GB Memory stick would hold upto about 16 hours of content. Which would be ideal I suppose for kids on a long journey. As for any other use, and will it take off? I am not convinced, at least not enough to go out and buy a PSP or indeed even subscribe to the service offered. If it is as hard or as complicated to use as the Sky Player, then that's a definite no no.

Just like Sky Player then! Another service that is not available to computers running Mac OS X or Linux...

Except the planned functionality to download directly to your PSP in WiFi hotspots.

(not implemented for launch, but pending).

That may help it, the biggest gripe I have is the fact that you have to download the content to a PC first.

I believe that's what customers have commented on already.

Anyone who's registered, or has registered their interest at Official PSP (PlayStationPortable) will receive an email when direct DL'ing to PSP is available.

Re: Sony's GO!View launches with Sky

It's nice to see that Sky and Sony are acting on feedback, and then implementing such.

If this is implemented, the appeal would be bigger, and the end result, less cumbersome.

Re: Sony's GO!View launches with Sky

I would have thought the functionality was in from concept. Chances are it's just been pushed back by various constraints and was taken out prior to launch, in my opinion.

Re: Sony's GO!View launches with Sky

Are Sky going to start selling wardrobes or curtains?

They should be concentrating on getting my business back from Be Interent in November and I see nothing of interest.
