      and sky will not survive by capping us to 250gb a month hmmmm theyve done pretty well so far i dont see them making a loss and i defianetly dont see them sinking even if they had a higher fup , they should stop all this nonsence when people sign up saying oh yeah we have unlimited downloads in big letters to con people that is so annoying to the normal joe blogs or mrs smiths that sign up cause its meant to be unlimited so they wont shouldnt have any problems or any extra costs worrying about how much they use there net

      i have to admit i am heavy down loader, however always off peek and at university, where my speed is very impressive, multiple connections are allowed! I very rarely download at home with my sky connection simply as i don't need to. I can see how people download a lot easily but i can understand ISP need to limit. I firmly believe in ISP that allow off peak downloading that is not included in your limit!

      Re: Sky To Enforce Usage Caps?

      we have unlimited downloads in big letters
      Its not only Sky that are guilty of this though. That I agree on. A limit or a cap is purely that, you know where you stand and how best to handle it.

      My point being, and maybe I am being naive. 250GB is a huge allowance. I bet if you reflect, hand on heart, you cannot say the 500GB a month you download is 100% legit. If so you deserve a medal.

      I do not want you to think I am having a go, I am most definitely not.

      Pardon me, I have to laugh at comments like this, you must be rather younger than me How many of you can remember 21 for V92 so-called 56K dial-up where you were lucky to get even 48Kbps out of it? Okay, fair enough, with no caps. But at that speed it would take a month of Sundays to download a single MP3 track

      Fast forward to 2008 and we have bundled in with TV a 2Mbps package, a 5 for 10Mbps and 10 for 16Mbps (all up-to of course).

      Yup, times sure are hard these days LOL

      Re: Sky To Enforce Usage Caps?

      I've no issue's over fair usage limits and caps providing the ISP gives the end user sufficient means of seeing how much they have 'actually' used rather than making us play guessing games like so many do, and are open and honest about its policy.

      My biggest arguement over the years with ISPs is this marketing tactic of advertising it as 'unlimited broadband' but then in the small print saying there's a FUP (fair usage policy) of X number of GB's per month.

      Cut out the misleading advertising I say and for once just say how it really is. Is it unlimited or is it XYZ rather than this grey area of confusion that exists and so often rears its ugly head in the press when customers revolt.

      If they can get this right then Sky have nothing to worry about.

      Re: Sky To Enforce Usage Caps?

      As I and others have said, saying unlimited but having a cap shouldn't happen and giving people somewhere easy to find out how much they have used is a must.

      The new Ofcom code of practice, which sky has signed up to says

      providing customers at the point of sale with an accurate estimate of the maximum speed that the line can support, whether it is in the shop, over the internet or on the phone;
      resolving technical issues to improve speed and offering customers the choice to move onto a lower speed package when estimates given are inaccurate;
      ensuring all sales and promotion staff have a proper understanding of the products they are selling so they can explain to their customers the meaning of the estimates provided at the point of sale; and
      providing consumers with information on usage limits and alerting customers when they have breached them.
      Hopefully we will see all of this implemented soon....
