Well sadly next month may be my last month with Sky on all fronts tv, broadband, phone.

O2/Be have just enabled my exchange so I'm switching broadband as I'm a O2 mobile user. Sky Tv just isn't worth 20 a month to me now so I'll be buying a Freeview box at some point soon and the savings on SkyTalk to be honest aren't that good these days.

So after 20 years of having Sky Tv I'm finally pulling the plug due to it's poor programming...nothing but repeats, repeats, repeats lately!

      Hi simon,

only thing i would say is get a good free view box and make sure it has the dual tunner and can record the programmes you need. Humax is supposed to be very good (but around 180 last time i looked), i just got the inlaws a Thompson box which is OK, but not even 30% as good as Sky plus

I have been looking to switch to VM however they dont have Sky 1 which apart from Sports is the only "Sky" channel I watch (I do watch others which VM have such as UKTV progs etc), whats the chance of them burying the hatchet and putting sky channels back on

Re: Sky's pay-TV plan on hold again

I've been with Sky since February 5th 1989, back then just a handful of channels were available but they were rich in new material. Over the years I've noticed that the quantity of channels as increased dramatically but the content is regurgitated constantly and some examples of this are..

Star Trek The Next Gen - Just how many times to we need to boldly go?
Stargate SG1 - Its on that many times i feels like groundhog day!
Malcolm In The Middle - Whilst funny how much more can I take.
      The Simpsons - Yawnnnnn!

All the other subscription based channels are equally as bad..

A-Team, Friends, Two Ronnies, The Royale Family, Fraiser, Star Trek Voyager to mention but a few.

My own take on this is that well over half of Skys current line up of programmes are now years old and of interest to new customers only who have most likely not seem them on terestrial tv. As for the rest of us....we either like it or lump it. But quite frankly I've just paid my last 's to Sky this month and good riddance.

As a child, I remember my father built our first T.V to watch the Coronation. A green and white picture (an ex RAF radar tube I think) about 9 inches and the picture regularly dissapeared in a snow storm (we lived well outside Sutton Coldfield's range) But we watched in wonder. How times have changed now we have zillons of channels and are not happy

Therein lies the main problem, too many channels but not enough content to go round thus they resort to continuous repeats month in month out, year in year out. We are being bombarded with tv shows dating back 20 yrs to fil in the huge gaps.

Re: Sky's pay-TV plan on hold again

and content was in short supply this year due to the US writers strike, I notice that this September that Sky 1 is planning to put the new shows on rather than wait until January.

Frankly Ofcom is beyond beleif, It sticks it's nose in where it is not wanted yet where it needs to make a descion it happily keeps well out or bottles it, the 0870, 0845 debacle is a good example. It stops companies recieveing money from 0870 numbers and gives them 18 months to change, then they all go over to 0845 numbers 17 months later.

Somebody needs to go and kick them up the backside.
