Sky Start Asking For The Old Routers Back

Finally after 19 or so months, it looks like Sky have finally got their act together and are trying to achieve some kind of Stock Control / Repairs procedure.

One of our Moderators, mikey4020 received this letter this morning.

      Dear Mikey

Help us to improve out Sky Broadband Service and do your bit for the environment too.

In order for us to continuously improve both our service and products we are writing to ask for your assistance. And it does not include filling in long surveys or questionnaires. All we need you to do is pop your, old non functioning Sky Router into the enclosed prepaid envelope and send it back to us- there is no cost to you to send it.

By doing this, it will enable us to check the faults that have appeared on this router and to improve our hardware. It will also enable us to dispose of these routers in an environmentally friendly manner.

      Thank your for choosing Sky

could this also begin to see a crackdown on those using non-sky routers i wonder?

Primarily its just Sky catching up with loads of routers that are out in the field losing them money, if they get them back they can repair them or recycle them back out if there is no fault. It will also help them figure out why the routers are failing but I suppose its also a way of seeing if people having been causing some of the issues with firmware tweaks etc.

about time if you ask me, as mentioned in the letter, they can at least look into what the problem is with the router (we have all seen the posts on here where people have a problem that in no way related to the router, but a new ruoter has been sent out to "fix" the problem )

I actually thought this thread was about this.

I wonder if Sky asking for these routers back now after all this while has anything to do with the improved reliability of them since the latest firmware update.

Re: Sky Start Asking For The Old Routers Back

Perhaps they want to upgrade them and send them out to new customers again. Or start sending refurbs to customers who are out of the warranty period. I'm not rushing to send mine back, they gave me a parcel force bag but I can't be bothered going to a post office to post it to them.

Sky may also be asking for them back as they may have been slapped on the wrists law wise.
Remember, last year saw the introduction of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations.

Re: Sky Start Asking For The Old Routers Back

Well i just got a V2 netgear from them, as the wireless stopped working on my V1. (it still functions as an ADSL router, just not wirelss)

They haven't sent me any letter asking for it back yet, but I am more than happy for them to have it back if they want it
