Hate to bring a sobering note to all this celebration but just to remind that official Netgear line that trying to upgrade firmware over a wireless link can brick the router. Always use an ethernet cable to link the router to the computer when upgrading.
That's a good point. It'll be a lot loss risky if you use Ethernet rather than wireless. The router doesn't need to be connected to the phone line to do a manual update, so once you've download the new firmware onto your PC, just unplug the router, put it next to your PC and connect the two up using the yellow Ethernet cable that came with the router.
The update went without a hitch going from the community update to the new Sky version.
Had a bit of a scare though, reconnecting after the update dropped me from 6880 to 384kbps with the noise margin dropping from a steady 10 to 5.4db. Manual rebooting didn't seem to solve the sudden problem but, oddly, initiating the landline's dial tone did! The connection now holds at 6880kbps with a noise margin of between 11 and 12db; pretty good for daytime usage here. If this keeps up I'll be requesting my connection be uncapped. Still, I don't know what happened to cause that hiccup?
