Yeah, I know. Sky's Terms and Conditions claim rights that it doesn't have and forbid actions (such as modifying the code) which actually invalidate their right to use that code. How on earth does a major public company like Sky come up with Terms and Conditions that were so shabbily written? Didn't this get checked over by Sky's legal department? Didn't anyone say, "Hold on! Are you sure we can say that?" Utterly baffling.

Hold on just a cotton pickin' , lets just read that again
The software in your Wireless Router is owned by or licensed to Sky
Ah, the key words are owned by or licenced to. So that's all quite legit and proper then.

Nothing to see here, move along please

When we spoke to Sky, Sky made it very clear that they were keen to get the image or the link to us as soon as physically possible.

I know for definite that they were doing their best to aim for today, but asked, not to tie them down to that time scale. Which of course we didn't.

One would assume at the earliest now, it will be Monday, unless of course our Contact works over the weekend.

The software is only licensed if Sky complies with the terms of that licence, which amongst other things require Sky to provide end-users with a copy of those licence terms (so that they are aware of their rights), to make the source code available, and to permit end-users to modify their software.

I guess it's a bit like a pub that's showing Sky Sports to its customers, but under a residential contract. Just because the pub landlord has a licence to view the channel, it doesn't mean he can interpret that licence in just any way he chooses.

Not wishing to sound ungrateful for their efforts, but how long does it take to stick a file on a web server?

Mind you, I suppose it could be the case that a flash image that works with the auto-update facility of the router, might not be in the right format for manual updates, so maybe I'm being a little unfair there.

roflmao You mean to say, after all this time on here, you haven't yet spotted that Sky take their time to do things?

I suppose they really want to make sure that it is all going to go to plan, I can imagine as soon as the link is live, it is going to get battered. Just like when they did the email changeover.

I ain't making excuses for them, however they did say as soon as it is possible, they will let us know. As soon as we know, you'll know.
