Ah - so if I have SKY BB but NOT Sky Talk - then there are no free calls - I had a feeling there was a catch!! With BT current rates and using their credit card to put pounds into my account they are almost paying me to use the service LOL! I've also had another offer for another 3 months free if I continue for a further 12 months - so what can I say?!!

      Cheers

Yup, its true!! Its definitely official that Sky will make these Sky Talk changes. My letter from Sky has came to me by post on the same day as my 28th birthday which Monday 31st March 2008, but my mum collected and place all my post to one side including the letter from Sky as well a few of my birthday cards because I was very busy and she have forgot to tell me that I have some post waiting for me to open them.

I have decided to scanned the two documents from Sky for everybody to see as follows:

Reading that letter, it does occur to me that companies like Sky should really be forced to tell their customers that by choosing Sky for line rental, they lose the ability to use other telecoms carriers. This is a particularly bad problem now that Sky have hiked up the cost of calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, so that they are actually more expensive than BT.

Is there any speculation on why Sky has so drastically increased the price of these calls? Is it a pure money making opportunity, or is there a hidden motive?

It could be a blessing in disguise in speeding up the decline of 0845.

Re: SkyTalk Changes effective 15th April 2008 (& 1st July)

Good thing that I have keep my BT phone line stay actived and not switched to Sky!! No way, its much better to have both worlds in one phone line, as my favourite phrase goes.... ...."2 for the price of 1". Even my BT phone bill come 2 days ago online. Only 31.69 in total including 6 chargeable calls for my 'almost free Caller Display', working out goes like this:

      Cost of Calls: 0.23 (Evening calls: 6 x 0.038 - 0207 179 3610 Total: 00:03:20)
      Your benefits -3.26 (Paperfree bill 3.21 + Friends & Family Overseas 0.05)
      Rental charges 30.00 (Unlimited Weekend Plan - 10.50 x 3 = 31.50)
      VAT 4.72
Total now due: 31.69 (my calculations: 31.73 - only saving by 4p)

Its very cheap for 3 months, much better than in July 2003 - 89.21 for 3 months. With Sky Talk Unlimited, I pay only 46.69 for 3 months in total (around 330 - 400 free calls each month), and its still cheap!! Plus, I don't need to wait until Friday midnight to use the free weekend calls on BT (1280) network, its not worth it, I just use my 24/7, any time, any day... Sky Talk Unlimited phone package to make lots of free phone calls. Lovely and sweet... and I'm loving it!!

I believe the really expensive increase in calls to 0845/0870 numbers is to pay for the increase in the extra 10 international destinations you can call for free (now 20) providing your on SkyTalk's all-inclusive plan.

I also believe it's because SkyTalk customers (from July) wont be charged for calling the many SkyTalk 0844/0870 numbers. This literally means a hefty (I can imagine) loss for Sky so are using the increase in 0845/0870 to subsidise it.

It could be a blessing in disguise in speeding up the decline of 0845.
Not really noticed a decline in 0845. I have with 0870 as they've generally moved to 0844 or 0871.

thanks for the info I have recieved no notification from sky on these changes, the 0845/0870 increases are huge.

Is there a phone that has the ability to auto add 1280 when you dial 0870/0845, my problem is I just wont remember to do this.

Many of us use Orchid V4 or V4Plus LCR (low cost routing) diallers.

There's also a small community who use THESE PARAMETERS for programming.

Re: SkyTalk Changes effective 15th April 2008 (& 1st July)

Heinz I tried to use 1280 yesterday on a 0845 call, when I did 12800845xxxxx it said the number isnt recognised but worked when I dialled it normally. Did i do something wrong?

I am defenitly paying line rental to BT and not to sky.

Thanks have ordered the + model as if I am right is requried for caller display.
