My Mother (75yo) pays her BT bill at the Post Office and is charged an extra £18 a year for the privilege , simply because like a lot of older people she doesn't like using banks (DD).

Re: SkyTalk Changes effective 15th April 2008 (& 1st July)

i was on sky talk then i got my on line rental bill from bt and notice a charge of £3.45 so i rang them. i was told because i have the line rental from them yet calls are from sky i have to prefix a number and make a minimum of 4 calls. though bt to keep my line rental only charge.
my son has just looked at his bill and he to has been charged £3.45 from bt so he rang and got the told the same as i got. the reason being that they say they sent notification of this via post yet i have never recived any nor has my son i think they have a cheek. has anyone else checked there bt bill to see if they have been charged extra besides the standard line rental ?

Is this change going to enable us to get out of the 12 month contract & go back to BT?

At least they asnwer the phone when you have a problem.

If you keep your line rental with BT but use Sky Talk for your calls, you have to tell BT that you want to go on Option 1 (the Free Weekend Plan) if you aren't already. Hasn't that always been the recommendation?

Or maybe they're not telling people to do that any more, in an attempt to hoodwink people into taking line rental from Sky as well.

If I was you, if you have registered BT.com Online account, I just change the calling plan - the easy way by clicking on "change your Calling Plan" button, select "BT Together Option 1 - Weekend plan", then click on continue. That's what I did last year May when I got Sky Talk Unlimited phone package and it worked!! No phone calls, no putting you on hold, no hassle, no headache - just a simply, direct and quick choice made in a few seconds with a few clicks, that's all it takes!!

My mum is loving it... I didn't know my mum uses the phone a lot, lol... each month, my Sky Talk bill always showing around 300 - 400 calls total in a month and its all free! Lucky for me, if I didn't get Sky Talk Unlimited, I'll probably paying BT extra £16 (400 x 0.04p = £16) on top with BT line rental of £10.50, total of £26.50 a month to BT alone.

Even my own recommendation is to stay on BT Option 1 for incoming calls, paying by Direct Direct and online billing option with Outgoing calls to Sky Talk Unlimited phone package, so that all I have to pay is only £15.50 a month.

Re: SkyTalk Changes effective 15th April 2008 (& 1st July)

Now I am really confused! If I understand these threads I should:

1.Stay with BT for line rental and chose DD with paperless billing
2 Select the BT Together Option 1 - Weekend plan
3 Make all free 01 and 02 calls by Sky Talk
4 Prefix almost all other calls with 1280 to switch 08 etc calls to BT

Have I missed anything? What about calls to Mobiles?

You don't say which Sky Talk plan you're on. If it's Sky Talk Freetime (just free UK 01/02/03 calls of up to an hour evenings and weekends), that is equivalent to Primus Saver Option 2 in my '6-steps' series of suggestions/recommendations (see HERE).

As you'll see, 18185 is cheapest for calls to UK mobiles weekdays and evenings. However, 1899 and 18866 both now beat 18185's weekend 3½p per minute rate by ½p.

Now that BT Together Option 1 (the Unlimited Weekend Plan) gives free weekend UK 01/02/03 calls of up to an hour each, I use BT for those calls at the weekend so as to qualify for free Caller Display (apparently, inclusive calls count as chargeable calls for that purpose).

Heinz
Saw you note above, about qualifying for Caller Display you use Bt system over W/end. I was told by `BT` I have to make `4` chargeable calls over 3month Billing period to qualify, for Caller Display--this I do. You say `Inclusive Calls count as Chargeable--excuse my ignorance, but what is an Inclusive Call.
