Exclamation Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

Dont know if this has been said yet, but I'm gonna post it anyways.

After noticing a new heading at work for creating technical enquiries, I asked around as to why there is now the heading 'BB router Firmware Upgrade'

After about 20 minutes I was sent an email detailing the reason for this heading.

Starting March 26th, and continuing for the next 3 months, Sky will be rolling out an updated firmware to all Sky phase 1 routers (the white ones)

The upgrade will take place at off-peak times to minimize disruption, and the process should take about 10 minutes.

During this time, you will have no access to the internet, but after the box restarts, you broadband will be back.

This firmware update fixes 2 major problems. It will solve the uPnP bug, and also improve on how the router deals with noise fluctuations on the line, which is a known issue with the box.

The UI will be changed to resemble the new Phase 2 routers (the black ones) so that everyone has the same.

Hope that is useful for you all.

      Indefatigable

You can now download the new FW here

hi just a couple of questions
1 will this increase my line speed.
2 what is the firmware version going to be.
3 after the update can i have my line uncapped from the present 5.1mbps downspeed

i look farward to enableing the upnp feature as i like the little window that tell you the line speed exactly like (the local connection icon)

      Excellent thread indefatigable.

I have had the white router since September 2006
      with an excellent service.
UPnP is turned off and I miss nothing at all.
My speed is twice as fast as I had from AOL -
      at half the price.

So why don't Sky roll this out first to those who have problems?
If they "brick" my router without giving me the options to
accept, decline or defer the upgrade is Sky going to take responsibility
for my loss of the Internet and hardware and software crashes?

I am not psychic. I used to be with AOL.

Your sync speed is dependent on your line attenuation which is governed by line length, not router firmware version so unless you are planning to move closer to the exchange at the same time as they upgrade your firmware then I'm afraid the answer is no.

Without seeing your router stats we dont know whether you are capped at that sync for a reason or thats the max your line will support.

That sounds wrong. afaik That is happening on the next FW update. But I could be wrong.

I have been led to believe that the GUI is not changing this update, only the functionality updates are being done this time round.

telnet the router and type in the following commands..

      nvram unset daily_check
      nvram unset nvram_need_post
      nvram unset ppp_terminate
      nvram unset prov_last_attempt_time
      nvram unset prov_last_update_time
      nvram unset prov_post_status

AFAIK this will stop the router for searching for the new FW,, so you wont get it. When you reboot the router the router will search for the new FW straight away (usually in the first 10mintues of the router switching on). So be careful..
