You do not need to connect to the internet if you have the file locally. Try connecting the router via the yellow cable to your PC and then open IE or Firefox, then type in http://192.168.0.1 into your browser. That should work if you are connected the internet or not.

Download the recover utility from here, using your current connection and save it into a directory with the latest firmware.

Then reconnect the sky router and force it into recovery mode by powering on whilst holding down the reset button.

You should then be able to run the recovery utility and reflash the router.

The recovery utility can be fussy about the hardware used and it doesn't like running under vista (although some people have got it to work by using "XP compatibility mode")

      Good Luck

brian, that should be the address for the router itself rather than anything on the Internet. If IE is telling you that the page cannot be accessed, and you have the cabling OK try holding in the reset button whilst powering on, and keep it in for 10 secs or so, and then see if the router will at least allow you to access it.

      Just a suggestion,

Brian i hope you get this fixed, if not phone sky and tell them the routers tick lights are flashing and they'll send out a replacement free.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

To all who tried to help me.
finally managed to log on to 192.168.0.1, by using pppoa username and pppoa password.
      Statistics showed v1.02.04 firmware.
Tried to update to Sky new firmware got a message saying firmware was incorrect for the router.
Fortunateley before doing anything originally I had backed up the router settings to a cfg file, and was able to restore them.
i searched Netgear update site and found firmware 1.02.14 and was able to use that.
Again tried to update using the new Sky firmware, but got the same message.
My conclusion seems to be that if the original Sky firmware settings have been changed to Netgear firmware the new Sky firmware cannot be used. that is unless someone knows how to revert the router to it's original Sky settings.
If anyone knows how to do this I would be grateful to learn how.
in the meantime thanks to every one who tried to help.
      Brian

Tried putting it into recovery mode Brian? Switch off the power to the router. Push a pen into the back for 5 seconds and turn the power back on and keep the pen pushed in for another 5 seconds. Wait for the Power and Tick lights to flash. Great now you have the router in recovery mode. Now follow these instructions..

Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password!

I'm not sure if the procedure just flashes to Netgear firmware or reverts to Sky firmware. Please advise

After you've followed Brian's instructions to power on with the reset button held in for five seconds did you then follow the instructions that he has linked to in his last post to you?

Thats this one Ive done it! Flashed router and got my sky password! - click on the blue text...

      Brian,
I don't want to stir things up but if your son managed to flash it to the Netgear firmware, how about getting him to read the thread with you and get him to flash it back to Sky's firmware?

      **Edit**
I'm not implying that you're not capable of doing it, just that you can make your son aware of what you've had to go through after he changed the settings without your knowledge.

Or better still, following Zico's advice, getting sonny Jim to guide you through the process, but you actually do it. Don't let lad near the box again under pain of death or worse
