Some may disagree, but Rupert is not God, and can not punish with his tiny empire. That position belongs to the CEO of BT (may his pairs never be split) and his team of wizards who control his mighty back haul and his oh so local loop

Actually .......... God is otherwise occupied these days

4/7/2008 9:05:07 AM Monday, British Sky Broadcasting Group plc (BSY, BSY.L, BSYD.L, BSYBF.PK) said it appointed Andrew Griffith as its chief financial officer with immediate effect.
On December 7 2007, British Sky announced the resignation of chief executive officer James Murdoch to take up a new position in News Corp. as chairman and chief executive of its European and Asian operations.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

I have been keeping a VERY close eye on my SNR since my new firmware update at 2.00 am this morning. It would have normally dropped to under 5.7 {with the odd cut off} during the "busy" period after 6.00pm. However it has stayed steady between 7.5 and 7.8 all day up to now. Has anybody else noticed this change in SNR stability ?

You'll find that Newscorp are valued at $53Bln while BT's value is around £14Bln (call it $28Bln) - figures as at 31 Mar 2007.

Both respectable figures in their own right but in God-like terms Newscorp's sky pips the post by more than a few shekels

      Hi Netgeezer.
Don't be like that, It's not your fault that it is the BT thumb on Sky's wind pipe when it comes to distribution

As of today, software downloaded, attenuation reduced by 1db, noise margin (maybe reduced) but holding.

Yep , I once killed a Wanadoo live box which was performing an unannounced update.

I had no internet connection so rebooted the box part way through the update process.

Although getting the FW really depends on if the router bothers to check.
I decided to try and cheer up a bit (let's face it, I need to!) ...
So I gave the mognuts tool a try (I've never used it before).
I forced the Noise Margin up to +10dB as you suggested.
Having re-negotiated with the exchange on this basis, the download speed dropped from 10,800kb to 7,800kb, but thats not a problem on a short-term basis. The main thing is the router then stayed online all night without falling over - its never managed that before!
Anyway, this means it now stands a reasonable chance of getting the update successfully, and I have to thank you for that.

So thanks for that advice, I owe you one.

      Cheers,
      Tonytronic.
