I can only go with what I saw. It was a basic email I received. I cant send it out of work, or i'll get done. but next time i'm in i'll have a look again and see whats what.

As for stopping the download, the only way to stop it is either to disconnect the box from the line indefinetly, or to perform that process halt mentioned earlier in the thread. But, its probably best just to let it happen. Lets put it this way, if sky balls it up, they will take you through a reset procedure that flashes the router back to standard. And if they really mess it up, you get a nice new black router instead.

Plus, just as an added thought, Sky are keeping tracks on who has upgraded. If they find you arent upgrading after a certain time, they will investigate why. If its found that you are using an 3rd party router, or that you have flashed the sky one with non-sky firmware, you'll be held responsible for damaging the box, and will possibly have your broadband suspended. Just a thought.

I would certainly not even think about taking the risk of sending the email from Sky.

The only thing that puzzles me, I have several people who I talk to regarding stuff unofficially, even though it quite obviously annoys Sky. It has always been made apparent to me that the priority is to get the FW in a proper working state. Once this is issued, then the cosmetic issues would be addressed. This was also confirmed to me by our contact who sent us the new V2 routers.

Apart from the obvious design upgrade, we've been working on improving stability and performance with this router. We will be rolling out the same improvements to the original router in the coming months with a firmware upgrade.
There has been absolutely 100% no indication that the new GUI would be included with this new release. The FW numbers reported to have been rolled out through testing, match the numbers that we were aware of, but again no improvements to the GUI have ever been mentioned.

The biggest problem that we have is, that we know stuff, but to say what we know puts people in a difficult position job wise, and so therefore sometimes it is just very hard for us to either confirm or deny things that may or not be happening, even if we know they are. If that makes sense.

In other words, I would be very, very surprised to see a new GUI and it may have been a ploy to see who passes this information on. So for your own sake, don't give out any information that could identify which department / location that you are based.

And to add to that, the firmware rollout is going to be an excellent time to clear out all the "junk" entries on the authentication servers - entries for routers which have been replaced under warranty, or which were given to people who are no longer Sky Broadband customers.

My speed is twice as fast as I had from AOL -
      at half the price.

So why don't Sky roll this out first to those who have problems?
If they "brick" my router without giving me the options to
accept, decline or defer the upgrade is Sky going to take responsibility
for my loss of the Internet and hardware and software crashes?

I am not psychic. I used to be with AOL.
Murdock, if anything happens to your V1 router, I will send you one of my V2 routers as a replacement. After all a favour deserves a favour

As for anything going wrong I truly believe you have nothing to worry about.

And I wonder how many will just call up and say, whether it has or it hasn't, "your upgrade last night has just bricked my router", and thereby get themselve a nice new black one.

      Just another thought.

Maybe, but maybe the new FW will enable Sky to know if that is really the case?

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

We know that there is overtime offered to Sky Staff to ring people the day after to see if any problems.

I bet you a fiver a few people are going to get new routers, that's Sod's Law. If I am honest, if I got a phone call asking me if everything is alright as we updated your FW last night, I would invent a few problems.....

The V2 router is so much nicer looking for a start.

Sky will know who has and who hasn't had the "upgrade" so I would have thought that to start with that would be pretty pointless.

That might be the case but I for one couldn't really careless how good it looks as mine is the corner of a spare bedroom and can't be seen that easily. And I for one will not be inventing any problems especially if nothing (as everyone keeps saying) goes wrong because as I have said a few times that like Murdoch my router has been rock solid from day one.
