      .
imo it would be the ones who know alot about BB and had come over to sky as it's such a good price, compared to the "open router" ISP's who were charging them a fortune and i'm sure they could find another isp with no problems

I don't really see that they will bother to do this, particularly when forcing people to use a certain piece of hardware is already on slightly shaky ground. I think they will leave it in the T&Cs, but not try to enforce it. It's fair enough to refuse tech support if people aren't using the supported equipment, but otherwise let people get on with it!
I wish mine would stay on long enough to get the upgrade under the old firmware and thats what im trying to point out.
My guess it would crash as its downloading

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

Yes i gave it ago got the internal wiring excuse aswell, ended up frustrated with all the drop outs and read this forum thread after thread.
I fialy got the bottle up to flash the router with netgear firmware and have since had no probems until a couple of weeks ago.
That was down to the adls box fitted by bt that was put in years ago, when adsl first started.
it droped out when the phone rang only or you could hear noise on the line, i have since got a new one and its been 100%
Well worth the money btw, the problems only started again since flashing back to the oringnal firmware
BTW and we all know about the firmware problems that why we have mossywells and james67 help on this forum and the netgear links ect, im not saying its everyones problem but i bet alot of it is.

Well, i am over my year contract, so i guess (if its like a digibox) the modem is now mine anyway, and i only continue to pay Sky for the broadband service i am receiving. If they say anything to people out of contract, i guess it will be refusal of technical help unless 100% Sky equipment is being used (hardware + firmware).

      Now thats a fair point.

What happens when you are out of the 1 year contract?

^^ Nothing would change, you still have to use the supplied router and FW while connected to sky bb (but as you are out of the years contract, if the T&C's were implimented and you did not agree with them, you could leave with the normal notice period)

Well you would still be expected to follow the T&Cs regardless of whether or not you are still inside the 12 month contract. However, you could leave Sky without penalty outside the 12 months, which is what I imagine a lot of users will do if Sky attempt to enforce certain conditions.

Re: Sky Phase 1 Firmware upgrade confirmed!!!!

I'd imagine that the purpose of the requirement to use a Sky-provisioned router with customised firmware is, as has been stated numerous times, for support purposes only.

Of course we could never be certain as to whether Sky will bar users for using their own router, or the Sky router with stock Netgear/Sagem firmware, unless they actually do start barring people.

Personally, I'd be surprised if they did. I'm sure they just take the view that if people do it, it's at their own risk and they won't offer support to those whom choose to reflash or use a different router.
