Sky soon to be offering Telephone Line Installations

A BT Source has revealed to us that Sky are currently operating a pilot phase of New Line Providing.

According to this reliable source Sky are hoping to release this new addition to their product portfolio within the upcoming months.

      What will this mean?

This will mean that Sky will become a Telecoms provider thanks to Ofcom's ruling that BT are no longer allowed to have the monopoly on Telecommunications within the UK.

Sky will be able to set up a brand new phone line for a customer at a charge of 124.99, the line will be installed by a BT Openreach Engineer but maintained by Sky.

Users will enter into a 12 month line rental contract with Sky but line rental will work out 1 month cheaper than BT's current offerings.

This sounds good but will you have to be on a BT line to start with as I am currently with Talk Talk?

Does this mean that Sky could make u have their line to be able to have their Broadband as BT might not want to maintain the lines that are theirs that have Sky Broadband on them

I very much doubt that for two reasons, firstly what about all the current Sky Broadband customers who already have BT as their phone provider, they can't suddenly tell those people that you have to cancel with BT and go with Sky. And secondly technically the phone and Broadband sides of BT and Sky are two different companies and as such it should be up to the customer to pick and choose who they go with and it might even be against the watchdogs (whoever it is) rules.

If existing BT customers wanted to switch to sky would they have to pay for a new line or simply switch over?

Trouble is that it is still going to be copper wires, if sky were going over to offer fibre optic perhaps, but why move if BT are going to charge a bomb for a new line to save 1 a month?

I am with BT atm, but as of next Monday, my phone line changes from BT to Sky - at no cost to me.

Unhappy Re: Sky soon to be offering Telephone Line Installations

And what's the point if Sky's going to charge the same as BT (124.99)?
