Re: Sky soon to be offering Telephone Line Installations

Just to make the point clear, the new offer is for line installations not line rental which, as has been pointed out, has been available for a few months now. The most obvious situation where this might be carried out is if someone has been using cable for their TV, broadband and telephone, and they want to change everything to Sky. At the moment, they have to get BT to install a new line, and then move the line rental over to Sky once everything's been installed.

But as has been pointed out many times, moving line rental to Sky is something which may not save you as much as you think. Line rental from BT, if you chose to have paper-less billing and pay by direct debit, is only 50p more than Sky, and BT offer cheaper calls for some numbers like 0845 and 0870 numbers, as well as offering the ability to use alternate carriers by way of "indirect access" codes, such as 18185. "Network Service" facilities such as three-way calling and call waiting are cheaper with BT if you have more than three such services (IIRC) so that's another thing to take into account.

You really need to take a careful look at your telephone usage before deciding to tie yourself into Sky's telephone services.

This has been said before, but is worth repeating, if you had a fault with your line that effected voice, or the line just snapped and needed replacing, would you rather go directly to BT, or fight your way thro Sky and have them go to BT on your behalf?

As long as you leave your line rental with BT, you can change to any other CPS calls provider (e.g. Primus Saver Option 2) within 10 days or so.
