I certainly wouldn't trust my important data being online somewhere, what happens if your connecton goes does for several days?
I believe the point of Store and Share is that they have a RAID array and high availability with a ubiquitous interface. Anyone can but a drive and connect it to their computer. Can you access your images from a friends home or get your files back if your newly connected drive crashes/fails?

I see the value in this - we have a similar service in Canada and it saved me twice....

Why pay when you can get approx 7GB of storage through Google for nothing using GMail Drive.
viksoe.dk - GMail Drive shell extension

Strange they are offering this now they have teamed up with Google!!

That is supposed to be for mail only although I did briefly flirt with uploading other stuff. I have heard of one or two people who have had their accounts suspended for uploading other files and stuff.

I use these guys as you get 5GB of storage space free - Free File Hosting - BOXSTr! - 5GB Online Data Storage & Backup with Hotlinking!

What IMHO would have been even more useful for me would have been web space - but I guess that has a lot of other infrastructure implications.

      Cheers

Re: Sky Launch Store and Share

Having seen some VERY nasty T&C's on other sites where for example they take ownership over anything you store on their server can I suggest before you store anything there you read through ALL the terms and conditions.

As I am heavilly involved in photography copyright is a big issue to me and many of my friends, some T&C's allow the site owners to take copyright over your images, which can be a BIG thing if it came to it, I have even known some sites to use members images to advertise the sites service without asking for permission, and when challenged their reply was "read the T&C's governing the use of our site".

I'm not saying Sky have done this, but simply advising you to check first.

PS. Even Googlemail used to have some very naughty terms and conditions, and for all I know they may still have!

Re: Sky Launch Store and Share

tbh I would rather have a 500gb drive, in my control for less than what you would pay to any online company per year. The only advantage I can really see is the ability to share online.

As for storing anything of any value or in complete confidence, I wouldn't trust anyone, apart from myself, and you never know, could end up being farmed to another company in the long run, just like the email was.

IMO they should give paying sky customers more space over the non-sky customers..

Re: Sky Launch Store and Share

This is something I have just noticed:
"Store & Share allows for sharing of all Content, but this does not include music files." However, (for those that have signed up) there is a "Music" section which allows you to create playlists etc, So are we allowed music or not?

      Then it says:
"You cannot upload or share copyrighted materials (for example, copyrighted music or video files). "
OK. So music files are allowed but only copyright free?

      Take note of:
"Accounts closed for any reason (including inactivity (90 Days with Content, 30 Days without) or payment failure) will have all Content removed permanently. Sky is not obliged to maintain inactive or abandoned Accounts."

Even though I am not going to use this I agree that paying Sky customers should get more space depending on what package(s) you have with Sky.
