Here's his website if anyone wants to comment on effectively being called stupid although a lot of us left school 20 odd years ago, before Outlook existed.

lol, I like the way he slags off his hosting company for poor performance and non delivery of emails.

Perhaps he should check his email setttings to make sure that they are in correctly?

Maybe he has not put the correct Name Servers in? Or perhaps not given the relevant folders the right permissions.

Why on earth should we pay our licence fee for that sort of dribble. Clearly it would appear, the research for the information was not thorough enough.

@ the_sky_goat - Great post, but I would imagine it will be filed along with the "generated revenue" statements from BT, or possibly edited to make it look like you wrote it before his piece.

Re: Sky Customers clearly have so little understanding

afaik The person who wrote the article has been emailed by a few members asking for him to take part in the discussion on here.

Is it me or have I totally misunderstood his article, and that he is effectively calling all those with email problems on Sky thick in a round about way?

      As for this section

"US President George Bush Sr. famously said that he wanted every US citizen to be able to operate their video recorder. Is it too much to ask that every child should leave school knowing how to configure their e-mail client?"

Obviously someone appears to live in Cloud Cuckoo land. Email is a one time setup normally. How on earth can any School in the UK teach someone how to change your password or effectively activate something that you are locked out of? - Through no fault of your own.

Your letter to the BBC was very good and very well put together wonder if you'l get a reply from them, doubt it.

I have had to do 6 pc's this week for elderly customers who have had trouble switching thier e-mail accounts over.

And not one of them and not one of them I would class as stupid in any shape or form.

      Keep up the pressure.

Re: Sky Customers clearly have so little understanding

      Just emailed Bill

      Hello

As part owner of the website www.skyuser.co.uk I would like to point out that perhaps you could have researched your information a little better.

You have done absolutely nothing to influence or make friends in your article, and as a person who has a Sky Email address, I draw offence at your implications that myself and 1.1million other people are effectively being branded as thick and should have been taught Email at school.

As for myself I am fairly confident at setting up email, although I did leave School over 20 years ago. However no School in the UK would be able to teach you what to do in the scenario that happened, in which you wrote about.

Perhaps you may find the following links useful:

Perhaps also you would like to join in on our debate on this subject here:

Or at the very least apologise to myself and everyone else who you have upset.

      Regards,

Re: Sky Customers clearly have so little understanding

I don't really blame the BBC. Bill Thompson is often a little controversial.

The thing is, if we applied Bill's principles to everything then the internet would be full of boring techies discussing routers and motherboards, and all the interesting websites run by people who know nothing about computers, but everything about photography, art, sport, music, film, etc, etc, etc. would all be gone.

      Goodbye BBC website.
