All you need to do is swap routers, the username and password are the same.

      admin / sky

There is really nothing at all complicated, just disconnect your old router and replace with the new one. Make sure you use the power supply that comes with the new one with the new router.

      1) The new router will not make any difference or increase in speed afaik

      2) You do not need to disable the UPnP on the new one

      3) It is a straight swap. You do not need to use the CD

Re: New Router Now Being Despatched

Photos of the new router have been posted on the net but are a bit crap looking

Seems to offer nothing that the Original Netgear offers I'd rather have the Netgear or better still the box Orange Broadband or BT gives their customers.

I thought Sky was supposed to be the experts in Boxes - where's the VoIP socket, the ability to perhaps connect a TV tot he box and have TV in any room?

All you people saying you intend to get a new box - why?

I had to set one of these up last night, and must say that it's a lot nicer then the white one I've got.

Does look cool on top of that HD box, guess there's no heat issues doing that?

Well for any object you'll have less heat issues standing it on it's side, certainly the case with external Hard drives as well.

Apart from the fact this box looks like a mini Sky box, has a nicer menu and might be more reliable - what's so great about it?

I prefer the look of my existing white box, also I can remove the antenna and put something much more powerful on it if I want to or a directional antenna, which is what I've actually done so I get a better signal where it's needed and also causes less interference with our TV sender.

I personally was expecting much more innovation from Sky.

At the very least since sky seems to not want to offer a proper telephone package (which includes line rental) why didn't they put a VoIP socket so we can plug a normal phone into the box? Then they could offer cheap international calls over their own internet network, an extra incoming phoneline, etc

Re: New Router Now Being Despatched

iirc The real goodies from Sky are about 18mths to 2 years away.

Initial reports of the new router are very good, very few people have problems with them at all, you just have to look on here.

Granted not all 12k or so of the owners know about this website, but even speaking to CS staff on MSN and email, it would appear faults are few and far apart.
