      Problems With Sky and Email

Following on from our earlier post about Skoogle Mail.

For those of you trying to reach Sky.com - Home and Sky.com - Email & Tools>Tools Page it would appear that Sky have not properly thought their migration policy through, and their sites are now timing out.

Sky in their wisdom have decided to migrate 1.1 million email addresses to Google Mail, affectionately referred to on SkyUser as Skoogle Mail.

What they forgot to factor in is the possibility of 1 million or so customers, trying to find out the information required to get their email back up and running. As well as the possibility that said 1 million customers, might just click on the Sky.com - Email & Tools>Tools Page URL at more or less the same time.

All we can tell you from reports on the forum, that this is expected to have an impact up until Saturday of this week.

If our forum is slow responding or not loading, this is purely because of the loads on our server as people try to find out the relevant information. For which we apologise. The thing is, will Sky?

Re: Problems With Sky and Email

Sky emailled all customers on Monday regarding this, unfortunately it would seem that either:
A: Not all customers physically got the email
B: Not all customers bothered to read the email
C: Not all customers paid much attention to the email even if they read it.

This has led to a lot of problems and complaints for T1 support. Obviously we all wish things had been done differently but I can state right here and now that even some customers that received their email with instructions on Monday decided to call us wondering why the email system wasn't working.
When asked if they had received the email and read it some would just say "Yes but my email isn't working". Sky is only part of the problem here unfortunately.

Re: Problems With Sky and Email

Two things are quite clear. First, Sky has no concept of customer service and secondly it is technically naive if it believed that one million plus users could be instantly migrated without service disruption.

I don't know if they realise how many angry customers they have out there. And all this could have been avoided had they given us an advance warning of service disruption. I could have warned my contacts in advance. Given them my primary address, even, which apears to be the default on Google Mail.

Instead of which we receive bland reassuring emails saying that if we change a couple of settings all will be well. It isn't. I wasted an 0870 hour yesterday trying to get sense out of a call centre that knew less than I did. Eventually I found another number that connected me with a technician who knew what was going on and he told me that the system was overloaded and I would not have a POP service before Saturday.

      Thanks a lot, Sky.

Re: Problems With Sky and Email

I can't be the only one looking to change ISP, all because of emails not getting through.

I have to keep logging on (when it lets me) to tools, and enabling Pop for ALL mail. Then I get all those I've already seen, even though I've set to delete from the server. I have to search through all those to look for new ones.

I'm also getting mail I've sent, now coming in addressed to me.

And 'Undeliverable' messages which should go to the sender, not to me the intended recipient.

This is the biggest mistake since PlusNet accidentally deleted hundreds of thousands of emails, most of them business, payrolls, etc.

Imagine if someone had just invented Outlook Express.
"Download all your mail with one program. You no longer have to logon to the server for each address".
      Wouldn't that be brilliant?

Why do you keep having to log on to re-activate POP? Does the status change when you go back into it?
