Oh, I thought the G15 only displayed the number of new messages and was controlled by Outlook. Sorry.

Question Re: Problems With Sky and Email

The nightmare continues.* I can retrieve my Email to all three of my user names from www.sky.com/Email and Tools although the site is not always available and it takes ages.* This at least prooves that the passwords are all correct but when trying to send or receive on Outlook or Outlook Express I repeatedly get asked for the password.* The unlockcaptcha link tells me that the username and password do not tally so I am back to square one.* I have checked and double checked all required changes to account settings and advice from this site but the only option seems to phone Sky.* An hour last night took me to The Phillipines, India, Scotland, USA and many other places.* Each operator made me verify who I was and asked the same stupid questions, usually in Pigeon Englsh.* No solution was offered.* I repeatedly asked for a Email address mail details to but this was refused, no doubt as a business ploy so that my next phone bill will bankrupt me.* Any suggestions?

Sky themselves have emailed me saying that they do NOT support Outlook, if this is the case then they need to be talking to one of the world's leader's in software MIRCOSOFT to resolve this matter. I look forward to hearing if anyone has managed to get this Prog. working.
As I have indicated earlier, I have set Outlook 2007 up and it recveives email just fine and its nice and quick. I just cannot send mail at all and Sky are no help whatsoever. As for Sky not supporting Outlook, there are instructions for Outlook 2003 in their documentation that they have sent out!

Funnily enough I know someone having exactly the same issue and they were asking me about it. Having spent about an hour on it, they phoned sky up who then said that they were having problems with the email service and there was nothing they could do to resolve it. If it wasn't working in a couple of days, phone up again.

Meanwhile, my email still works fine (although I did mine at midnight the day it changed over, so there wern't many people trying to do it at that time obviously )

Unhappy Re: Problems With Sky and Email

I received this in an e-mail response from Sky Broadband Support

"Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support.

There are technical faults whilst usi ng Outlook at present. This issue occured after the migration recent ly. However we are working to resolve this.

In the meantime, I would recommend th at you use the Sky emails until the Outlook issue is fixed. "

It is aweek since I received this reply but nothing further and none of my mail applications work. (Windows Mail on the laptop and Outlook Express on the desktop, also tried Microsoft Outlook, still no go)

Still I'm getting by, who knows perhaps we'll all get used to this way of working...

I have outlook 2007 working fine, though originally it would not send email,it was just a case of setting usernames correctly and then telling it to use ssl encryption for both incoming and outgoing authentication, then set outgoing server to use same info as incoming and bingo it worked.

Re: Problems With Sky and Email

Why do people even use ISP connected E-Mails, i have been with Virgin Media since NTL days, not once have i logged onto their email tool, i'm quite happy to use a reliable email like yahoo/hotmail.

I agree the whole migration process was a disaster and brought a lot of unnecessary frustration to customers AND techincal support operators, but the people who i laugh at the most are those who used @Sky.com email for business use.. catch a grip!

Re: Problems With Sky and Email

In trying out Thunderbird instead of Outlook Express I used the virgin.net server for my two virgin addresses instead of the complicated nonsense that Sky expects us to use. These work beautifully with the standard settings using mail.virgin.net for both the POP and SMTP boxes! I have 5 addresses, 2 virgin, 2 others and 1 sky. I tried routing the sky one through the virgin server and it would receive but not send, so have used the sky spaghetti settings for just that one account. I'm also weaning my contacts off the sky address so I can stop using it soon.
I wonder if sky thought that that would happen, being so complicated, customers would refuse to use the google set up?
