Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I feel like i've just been kicked in the teeth. After joining sky I had pings around 60-65ms on UK servers. So I sent an email asking for the max delay to be set to 8 and hey presto 24 hours later received an email stating this had been done. I now had a ping to UK servers of around the 35-40 mark. This lasted for all of about 2 hours when the broadband connection went totally dead for around 3-4 minutes. When the connection came back on guess what pings now at 75-80ms to UK servers (the worst it has ever been) great!

I was just wondering when the connection went dead could this have reset everything and pushed the max delay back up?

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

got put through to somebody in tier one, mentioned max delays, and was forwarded straight to tier 3, now on hold waiting for someone

edit: damn you guys hogging up tier 3!!!!!
edit:tranferred back to tier 2 because they deal with connect packages
edit: 'i have no idea what 'max delays' is'...later...'oh you want your ping being lowered, i can turn of interleaved for you if you want'

within 24 hours i should be on fast

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

Sent in my email to them about stability issues and the max delays. I'm just contemplating now whether I should reflash back to their firmware before they do anything, just to be safe. What do you guys think?

have you checked out the cabling and faceplate help, drop outs could be down to line noise

Oh yeah, i'm running out of the master socket at the moment - the same as my test socket as it only has wires 2 and 5 attached.

Angry Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

Well how about this for customer service:

I managed to get my "max delay" reduced in under 30 minutes!!!

Called the usual number went to Technical Support and got through the a Tier 1 bloke. After about 5 minutes I managed to explain what I needed and he eventually managed to put me through to Tier 3 (16 minutes gone)

Tier 3 was a bit baffled by the note the T1 bloke had put on my query (saying my Xbox 360's internet wasn't working properly) but after I straightened out what I was talking abot (it's nice to talk to someone technical for a change!) he got onto it straight away. Ran some tests, restarted my connnection*, ran one more test and all done! (29m:58s)

Thank you Sky! My ping has more than halfed! Was 75-95ms and is now a steady 30/31ms.

      I'm a very happy customer!

PS I phoned at about 9:10pm (today is Saturday) so maybe less people are bothering T3 at this time? Might help some others.

*My router took an abnormally long time to re-connect to the Internet so he's sent out a new one for me! Should receive it next week!

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I play World of Warcraft online and got my delay sorted very quickly. According to my router stats, my speed has stayed the same and my noise rating has actually improved. However, I am getting regular lagging and disconnection problems, mainly on an evening.

I'm currently blaming the Warcraft servers, but no-one else seems to be having the problems to such an effect.

Can this alteration to my broadband cause this? Nothing seems to change on the router stats during these problems, but it seems strange that they only started happening after my line was "upgraded".

Is there any way to check one way or the other?

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

It would help if the original post was edited to include some details of who authorised this at sky & exactly what user should be telling the tier 1 support (who know nothing of this).

As there does seem to be a lack of understanding at the initial level of support for what this is & how to go about it. Many questions about what it is & where we foiund the info/who authorised this. so IMO it would be great if we were armed with the correct responses.

No one did authorise it officially, it was an internal email that got sent to members of staff.

As per usual though, it has not been filtered through to the correct departments.

Open to suggestions on what we can edit the text for to say to the agent on the phone.

Hello everyone, have just signed up to Mid BB and stumbled across this thread, just as well because at the minute im getting a ping of 62ms! Just tried to ring Sky but to no avail, apparently they cant provide technical support on how to lower the delay time decided to send them an e-mail instead, fingers crossed. Thanks for all the research and hard work!
