You gaming wirelessly or via ethernet cable?
Is there anyway for me to check whether I'm on a gaming profile? On my line is it even possible to increase the upload speed?

I always game via ethernet. It's nice to know that there is at least someone that can think and make decisions based on what the customer is saying, you my friend should be coaching the others

Yup, got a good bit of SNR available for more upstream - it's currently capped at 800kbps.

Only sure way to check delays would be to call Sky, but DLM usually sets delays at 8ms already. Another way would be to turn off all machines and ping bbc.co.uk from a computer connected via ethernet (make sure no other machines are downloading etc.) and post up the results.

Nice one. I'll get onto support today then. How long does it usually take? Do I have to go through a couple of layers of support before I get the right team?

Used to be just tier 2 (CST) that had access to reprofile.

Nowadays - typically, most tier 1 won't have access to reprofile a line and will have to get a manager to do it, who usually don't have a clue what they're doing. However, some tenured advisors will have access themselves. Reprofiles take literally a minute or two.

All you need to ask is whether your max delays are at 8ms and to uncap the upstream.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

Just rang TCS. Lady on first line passed me through to 2nd line support, and man was he hard to understand. The line kept breaking up, and going quiet. I asked him what my lines max delay was at the moment and if the upload speed could be improved. He said he would need to run a line test and see what he could do, which would take about 15/20 mins.

I specifically asked him about being switched to the gaming profile, and he just said he'd need to run some line tests so that we could get better down and upload speeds.

Couldn't get a straight answer out of the guy. This is why I don't like ringing technical support lines. They treat you like a moron. If only I'd got through to someone like yourself that understood what I wanted.

There is no 'line test' to configure lines. You've been told a load of nonsense, mate. Ring them back and hopefully someone who knows what they're doing will answer the phone.

Do I just ask to be swapped onto the gaming profile for my line? Cause when I said that to him, it didn't seem like he had a clue what I was talking about.

Ok, tried again, this time the person I got put through to didn't have a clue about anything called a gaiming profile, and said that the ping times I'm getting are already very good.

"I want my max delays lowered to 8ms."

This can be done by someone who has the ability to reconfigure your line. So ask the advisor if he has access. If he doesn't tell him to put you through to somebody who does or have it done for you.

So at the 3rd time of trying, I actually got through to someone that ws helpful. Really nice guy. I asked if the max delays on my line can be reduced. He said yeah. Went away for a couple of mins and came back and said it's done. He said there was no way of increasing the upload speed though.

Next question is how can I confirm that he has actually done something? I have just run a speed test and pingtest on my line, but it still shows 40ms.
