You have some serious noise on the line there. Do you have a test socket? if so try that.

Also are you using wireless for gaming? this can be the cause of serious lag especially if a neighbour has just turned on something wireless on a frequency the same or similar to yours.

Get the test socket stats though, you should be getting double you current download speed easily.

You are on Connect, not Unlimited, which explains part of your problem. Just check by going to your My Sky page and open the Broadband details link on the left. See what it says there. Post back with what you find.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

      Hi Guys

This is my first post on the forum. I recently moved house and kept my 16 mbps connection with Sky. My router states that it is getting a 7 mbps connection, I can live with that but when I test the connection on my PC I’m getting 2.5 mbps. I have read through the advice I found on here regarding the orange ring wire. When I checked that it had already been disconnected. The 2.5mbps to my pc is probably due to it being a wireless connection. Annoying as I just purchased a new wireless adapter and it weren’t that cheap. Anyway the problem I am having that is annoying is that my connection to online games keeps dropping out after about a minute or so of being connected. I'm not loosing internet connection though which leads me to believe that this is a latency issue. Any suggestions guys.

The router I have is the black sky one I think its sagem!!, that seems to be playing up a bit as well. Sometimes when I switch it on all of that lights come on and there is a red one too. I have to keep switching in off and on until it boots up correctly.

This is my first post on the forum.

Strange, you have posts going back to 2007

You problems are probably due to using wireless, wireless and gaming don't go together too well. If you can post your router stats from your normal position and from the Test socket, we will get an idea whether is is your wireless or possibly some other reason.

You might also want to try changing the Channel in the router, start at 13 and work your way down till you get the best result. Also change the Mode in the wireless setting to g&b or g only. The default setting does not always work too well.

I think most would recommend you forget about wireless for gaming and get Homeplugs.

I forgot I had registered a few years ago, and I registered a few weeks ago as well and some how have managed to log in on the original username by chance, strange anyway. The router is plugged directly into my Xbox but my PC is upstairs so that is wireless. So technically my Xbox should have the 7mbps. I will try the test socket to see if that helps mate.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

what is max delays? what does it affect?

does it reduce latency? if so, why isn't this enabled by default?

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

Max_Delays reduce your ping if you are a gamer, for anything else web-wise, its pretty pointless doing.

Why do Sky not do it as default?

Probably because their network is setup for the average user.
