      Hey

1 email to Sky BB Tech last night telling them that my ping was way to high for online gaming and to ajust my max delay to 8 and so on and got 1 reply this morning!

"Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support.
I have approached our Customer Solutions Team and they have reduced your max delays as per your request. I hope this helps your gaming.

If you need further help or information, please reply to this email or contact us on 08 442 41 05 15.

      Kind regards"

My ping on speed test has now dropped from 81 to around 50 and on Warcraft there has been a massive drop, great customer service!

      Cheers

Thanks for info. Has there been any effect on your connection speeds since the ping change?

Monday I emailed sky to lower my delays. Recieved an email confirming this on Tuesday morning, quick log in WoW showed 80ms (dropped from 200ms)

Wednesday Evening, guild was killing Brutallis when suddenly a red ping bar, 5820MS! I shrugged it off and told the guild I couldn't continue unless it improved, it did not.

Thursday log in WoW 500ms average with extreams of 200ms and 5000ms. I check my router stats and it shows the following:

(Taken 5 minutes after a voice message saying the problem had been resolved)

Here are my stats before I asked for the delay change:

After countless emails and calls and sky messages claiming that the problem had been resolved, I am one VERY unhappy Sky Customer.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I finally decided to take the risk in connection degradation and request the change to improve my ping ratings. The good boys at Sky responded to my email and made the changes overnight.

      Ping times now

Pinging 212.58.251.195 with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=28ms TTL=121
      Reply from 212.58.251.195: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=121

      Ping statistics for 212.58.251.195:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 27ms, Maximum = 28ms, Average = 27ms

A great improvement on the old average of 80ms.

Slight loss in connection speed from avg 4mb to avg 3.7-ish but not noticable in usage.

All in all Happy Bunny. Thanks Sky and Skyuser!

Them pings are ultra low! I want them pings! Just out of curiosity, what did you say in your email? Did you ask for MAX DELAYS to be set to 8? Or just told them to lower them?

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I said the following on the Saturday

"I have recently improved mybroadband connection speeds by removing ring wire from my phone main socket. Now getting approx 4mb against 1 to 1.5mb previously. Also since firmware upgrade to router my connection seems alot more stable with continuous connection for over 290 hours now since the speed improvement. Stats are as follows. ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 4416 kbps 416 kbps Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db Noise Margin 6.8 db 14.0 db From advice on forums it seems my my ping rate is too high for online gaming and that I should ask you to adjust my max delay to 8. Is this possible without detrimental effect and if so can you do this for me. Thanks in advance"

and they replied the following day (Sunday)with...

"I have collaborated with our customer solutions department, who have re-configured the settings on your max delays. This should now help your online gaming. Please monitor your connection for the next 48hrs, and if you continue to experience any issues, feel free to contact us again."

      Cool eh?
