Line Attenuation 16.5 db 9.9 db
Noise Margin 13.2 db 16.5 db

      can it be improved?

I guess by your sync speed you mean can the ping be improved. Yes just request sky to do it via the kana online form.

you are connect at 15323 which is pretty damn close to 16Mb...... at that speed i doubt you'd notice any difference if they did get you to 16Mb....

anyhow, read dholdi's repsonse again as that wasn't what he said.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

As far as I am aware 15323 is the limit set by sky, one or two seem to have got a little more, they must have slipped the net. As red says you are very unlikely to notice the difference but if you really feel the need to try it BE may let you go higher - but it will cost you
There is scope for reducing the ping via the form in my previous post.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I'm very new to this so please be gentle.

I have Sky Mid package and White Router on wireless network. Since the new firmware my router has become pretty stable and rarely drops. (Had quite a lot of problems with old firmware dropping regularly throughout the day but "Bounce" made it useable. Thanks)

      Simple stats from router below.

      System Up Time 584:42:03
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 3370095 3264551 0 659 5104 157:15:02
      LAN 10M/100M 3186774 3622791 0 1702 215 584:42:00
      WLAN 11M/54M 13895997 14421282 0 1023 1945 584:41:53

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1632 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 14.6 db 13.0 db

My son plays COD4 on our PS3 and complains that our "Broadband" is rubbish.

I don't think I can do much about our speeds as I think I'm some way from exchange. At least I'm already getting better speed with Sky than I did with Pipex previously which was usually lower than 1000kbps

Looking here (on this great site by the way) I was wondering if our ping speed is the issue? See stats below.

Pinging Jolt.co.uk - Online Gaming - Clan Server Rental [82.133.85.65] with 32 bytes of data:

      Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=82ms TTL=57
      Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=83ms TTL=57
      Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=83ms TTL=57
      Reply from 82.133.85.65: bytes=32 time=83ms TTL=57

      Ping statistics for 82.133.85.65:
      Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
      Minimum = 82ms, Maximum = 83ms, Average = 82ms

Google and BBC both have similar times to Jolt.

I see that I can request Sky to change these somehow but was wondering if any risk applies and instability will become a problem again. If they change things will my connection speeds be effected do you think?

Detailed stats follow in case they will help you but don't bother to go any further in post if you don't need these as nothing else follows them.

      Thanks in advance.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

From my router stats, I wanted someone to point out if my max delays had been lowered to it's optimal to give me the best pings for gaming.

      G.dmt framing
      K: 111(0) 25
      R: 16 16
      S: 2 8
      D: 16 4

I have seen figures of 8 - 8 on other peoples stats... Help please?

      Ok pings. (24/05/08)

More than doubled my speed (X 2.7)

Further to my last post (#156) in this thread I've now removed wire 3 (ring wire) from my master phone socket leaving just 2 & 5 and surprisingly for me the phone still works and rings!

More importantly I have more than doubled my connection speeds.

The simple stats now read as follows

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4416 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.8 db 14.0 db

Instead of before changes as follows

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1632 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 58.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 14.6 db 13.0 db

Ping also seems to have improved from Average = 82ms to Average = 62ms

I've also ran TCPoptimiser and opted for suggested settings.

Thanks to everyone in the various threads that have led me to these actions.

So my ping question I guess remains.

I see that I can request Sky to change ping performance somehow but was wondering if any risk applies and router instability will become a problem again. If they change things will my connection speeds be effected do you think? I notice the noise margin has dropped from 14.6db to 7.8db. Is this a good or bad thing?

      Thanks

      John
