I may be wrong but the standard setting on sky is 64 ? In which case 8 is a vast improvement. However as you say other providers do offer fastpath which is basically interleaving with delays set to 0. However ( again ) it must be pointed out that this could cause things to get worse especially if line conditions are not too good. I think this is why sky have limited it to 8, as especially the up to 16meg adsl2+ service is more suscebtible to errors if line conditions arent perfect.

i thought id give it a try and got this response

      Hi Jon,

Thank you for contacting Sky Broadband Technical Support, and thank you for your kind comments.

I have this morning spoken to our Customer Solutions Team, and they have reduced your ping delay levels to 8, with no effect on your download speed, and no build up of errors.

However, I would ask you to monitor this for 48 hours, and if you experience any difficulties, please do not hesitate to reply to this email, or to call our technical helpl ine. (08705 515515)

      and guess what

Ive lost just under 2000k down and about 140k up, fantastic

you can see my previous speeds in my sig

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

Is there a difference in the sync speed as reported by your router. That difference reported by speedtest could be down to how busy theeir servers are at the time of test. I have seen diffences with my own connection to that site of upto 8meg !! Personally I dont trust them unless its during the middle of the night when nobody else is using them. Downloading a big file via ftp gives a much better indication of actual throughput and pinging a site such as bbc will give a more accurate result of your actual ping.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

      Thanks for posting this guys

I only recently got Sky Broadband, and my ping on the servers has been alot higher than im used to with BT

So I just gave Sky a call and after explaining(arguing) with the initial Tech Support adviser, his supervisor, I got through to Tier 3 and the guy changed my max delay. My ping is lower and seems stable after a quick test, so I can tear up the server's once again

^^^^^^^^^A level within their customer support structure.
It has actually now been superceded by the merging of T2 & T3 which are now known as CST.

Re: Sky Have Listened To The Gamers

I emailed them anyway and they said

I have escalated your request to our Customer Solutions Team who will check your line to see if it is feasible to make the changes you request.

They have finished what they were doing, MY Upload has increased but download decreased by 50kb/ps but hopefully my latency should be good
