      Re: Exciting new Rumour

Sky are going to reduce the price of Connect, all us unlucky sods who's exchanges are months/years away from being unbundled will sign up in droves.

Fast download speeds of up to 8Mb* and a massive usage allowance of 40 GB can now be yours with Sky Broadband Connect. It's available in your area right now for 17 per month – plus a one-off 30 standard set-up cost that applies when you take up Sky products before 14 September.
We are rolling out our state of the art network as fast as we can and hope to bring you Sky Broadband Base, Mid and Max in the future. Don't worry, if you register, we'll let you know when it has arrived in your area.

But while you're waiting why not take advantage of the benefits of Sky Broadband Connect - delivering fast download speeds for only 17 per month

      What happens after the 14th?

      Re: Exciting new Rumour

I wonder what they will call it ... while I understand naming it something other than Sky, to minimize confusion with actual Sky customers, it does seem to be an empire building outside the fort to me ... not sure it would a wise move as people might not trust a new company, as they would Sky.

I'm thinking maybe The Sun Broadband

Seriously if Sky gave you free Satellite and free broadband, some people would still find a reason to moan. It's your choice, if you wish to cancel the luxury of all that for 45.00 a month for the sake of having cheap BB, why blame Sky? The only people who are going to miss out are you, and your family.

Sky will still be broadcasting their channels for the same costs as they have budgeted for, if you are a customer or not. They will make more money yes if more people sign up for it but if they lose some people, they still have the same overheads and whether we like it or not, they ain't about to start worrying now.
ok of course i wont cancel but i had to have a wee moan did'nt i
but i have always seen sky as a company i or we helped to get to where it is today, i felt part of a family just like skyuser members are a family, so you would like to think that as a part of a family you would be looked after, i know the best move for sky is to get as many customers as possible but dont alianate your family bring them with you , at least with the sky hd box at the minute they are repaying loyalty, i'm just asking that they continue that, we all like to think that were getting something for nothing
whatabout FREE calls to the support ctr for people on sky talk i dont think thats too much to ask for

      Re: Exciting new Rumour

If, as you say, this exciting rumour 'probably won't affect those who have already got Sky BB, or those who are waiting to sign up' why have you bothered to generate speculation through the Sky User forum?

As Sky users are most probably unlikely to get excited by the rumour - whatever it is (even if it is ultimately confirmed) - what is the point of your post?

      Re: Exciting new Rumour

There are lot of members who are not sky customers, but may be considering, so they will take the news with interest.

As you say sky punters may not, unless there is to be further reductions or loyalty rewards.

But we don't make it a rule "that you can only visit this forum if you are on Sky." So people who are visiting this forum from any other ISP get the chance to read the story. Some of them may not be on Sky, they may have no intention of getting Sky TV, but they may want a good broadband product.

Believe it or not, the second largest group of visitors to visit SkyUser are AOL customers and then Tiscali customers in third place. (within the last 30 days) Not all of them may want to join Sky. But if they do not have Sky TV, they now know there is a chance to get a form of Sky Broadband at a possibly cheaper price than they are paying now to their present ISP. Then of course if they do, they will be Sky User's.

      Re: Exciting new Rumour

If it's what I've heard (and maybe it's already known but anyway) it's that Sky are going to compete with BT in the phone line arena. Therefore it will mean that you don't have to pay BT for your line rental anymore - I assume you will pay Sky something but I would expect it to be less than BT.

I could be barking up the wrong tree though...

9.00 per month to Sky against 11.75 from BT iirc
