Yes. Basically any game that requires fast hand and eye co-ordination requires good (low) pings.

A bad (high) ping basically slows your reflex. And can also make you visible to other players when on your screen it looks like you are out of their sight.

A good FPS player listens to sounds too. And if you have a high ping you will get a delay in hearing any sounds caused by other players. Like footsteps or bumping into movable objects.

High pings are are fine when all players have similar pings. But if your ping is 20+ ms higher than other you are generally at a disadvantage.

This can also be the case in driving sims like GTR, GTR2, GTL etc. The "lag" caused by high pings causes player to suddenly crash in each other.

I am pretty annoyed at my pings playing world of warcarft, constant 400+MS makes it unplayable. I shall be one trying to cancel my contract if things dont improve sharpish.

      Dear Sky,

As a subscriber to your broadband Mid package and an avid gamer, I feel I must express in no uncertain terms my disappointment with the service I am receiving from Sky. The service lag's far too heavily for practical gaming use, and Sky's attitude to fastpath demonstrates what can only be described as outright contempt for the consumer. Therefore I feel that unless this situation is resolved shortly, I'll be left no other alternative than to take my business elsewhere.

      Yours,

      Mr Michael Hamlin

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

The only online game I currently play is World Of Warcraft, and I'm getting a constant 500 Latency... If SKY say that's playable, I really don't know what they've been smoking.... It makes it impossible to play the game.

If sky don't sort something out soon I'll be cancelling and switching to another ISP.

      Dear Sky,

I raised a tier 2 call not long ago as i have a problem with pings to uk servers let alone euro servers. This is still a problem for me and i'd like you to take this issue seriously.

It is a problem and is annoying for serious gamers.

      Please action this asap.

      Many thanks.

      Dear Sky

I am generally happy with the Broadband Max service that you supply me. However if you were to give me, and the other users who use your service to play online games, the option to transfer to fastpath so that we can improve our pings I am sure it would be appreciated. I would be happy to pay a one-off fee for this to happen and I am sure that others would too.

      Kind regards

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

Yes I would much rather have the option of fastpath, rather than switching to another ISP. When the contract runs out, I won't be staying with Sky, and it seems unlikely I would ever consider them again for internet.

My pings are useless - its unplayable most of the time. Sky is cheap, thats why we went for it but, now I'm thinking its not worth it.

Bring in Fastpath Sky or lose my business forever!

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

I am not convinced Fastpath is the issue. As I have said on other threads I am now with BeThere.co.uk and am on interleaved with awesome pings (Counter Strike @ sub 20ms).

I think the issue is more to do with the routing of traffic and packet shaping/scheduling/prioritising.

Ok, Switching to Fastpath on Sky my get you better pings. But the real question is should you have too?

If I switched to Fastpath on BeThere.co.uk would I see sub 10ms pings in Counter Strike???

Your screen shows 51ms and i honestly do not believe anyone on a interleaved line gets anywhere near 20ms,feel free to *prove* me wrong.
