      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

Personally i have NO problems what so ever with Sky for gaming ever since the V1 firmware update. I currently own an Xbox 360 and Wii that with both i use the online facilities without a hitch.

I also play (the addictive and geeky) World Of Warcraft which i also suffer barely any issues.
If i do suffer any problems (such as lag like i have experienced on Halo 3) i just restart the router and i'm back in action with no issues what so ever.

before the update i did have the issue where every few games i'd have to restart the router as the lag was simply on stupid levels.

WoW i do suffer the occasional disconnection and occasional ping highs of 500Ms for a few minutes, but i'm normally constantly at around 98Ms. However this i've worked out to be the distance i am from the router as when i'm in my study upstairs, this is when the issues occur. when i'm sat next to the router i have perfect game play.

I do think Sky need to give the option to their customers on what choices they would like and additions to make to cater for the customers specific needs. this would certainly add to the great service sky provide at current.

And after all their CS phonecalls, yet they still have not resolved an issue that quite big. Also, I heard people were put on fastpath for testing, so does this mean that we could see fastpath option soon? Make it happen please!

A year ago to the day since this post, just think of all those lovely crisp fivers sky could have had in their coffers. Seriously tho, I think 5 month is a bit steep for what would be a one off configuration change, maybe a one off payment of 5 for making the change ?

Open a command prompt and type "ping bbc.co.uk" without the quotes and it will ping the bbc and display the results. Alternatively try one of the speedtest sites but I find the ping results to be a bit out. The first method should give the most reliable result.

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

I see people mentioning pings of around the 70 mark being unacceptable. I start with 300ish when i first log in, moving up to 3000 then 10000 about 2 mins later, before being kicked off. I wish i could get 70..

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

You have a problem and it's not Sky. Can you post your router stats. Are you connected via wireless, this is a killer for gaming and if you are you should try a wired connection to compare.

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9212 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 24 db 5.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 17 db

Those are my current stats. When im downloading torrents im getting near on 1MB per second so i cant complain there, it just seems to be now when tryign to game online and some website my girlfriend uses to stream videos, just loads like dial up.

Im not a total computer moron (i think ) and have forwarded my ports on the router and windows firewall thinking this would make some difference, but infact it seems to have made it a little worse if thats possible. It does have the advantage of not having the other half threatening to kill me if i dont get off that bl**dy game soon so maybe its time to go cold turkey!!

      Re: Dear Sky Broadband

With those stats you should be getting 16-24Mb (if it went that high), how is the router connected to ADSL line? Have you tried the test sockt?

Ignore the wife, gaming is a good way to keep from under her feet, they will nag about something anyway, buy a pair of headphones, works great, keeps noise from the outsdie world (read nagging wife) to a minimum
