I can't resist the temptation to say to both Sky and Virgin "Which part of Free and View" do you not understand ?

sky are dropping sky + subs i heard a few weeks ago - wsaen't it on this forum?

They are now even doing HDTV over freeview - which is good however i know for a fact that the mast at emley moor which serves most of yorshire is not yet geared up for it - and it pumps out freeview aswell as analogue and 2 radio stations

if they added a few more essential channels like nick jnr and jnr 2 and living tv and living tv 2 then id not use sky - i dont watch the rest

My eyes are dim . I cannot see. I have not brought my specs with me.

Where is Freesat from Sky mentioned. I could not see it

The piece is not comparing like with like, as Freeview is non subscription and Sky Digital is subscription.

They're rumoured to be dropping the Sky+ sub... has not been officially confirmed.

They're not doing HDTV over Freeview.

Sky are planning on removing their three Freeview channels (Sky 3, Sky News, Sky Sports News) [which all use MPEG-2, as do all other Freeview channels plus Sky Digital plus Virgin Media], and replacing them with four new channels, using MPEG-4 instead of MPEG-2.

MPEG-4 doesn't automatically mean HD though. It can e.g. be used to fit more channels in than MPEG-2 but with the same quality (e.g. more SD channels), or fit the same no. of channels in but with higher quality (e.g. same no. of channels as before but in HD instead). Sky are planning the former.

Sky's DTT plans first require OFCOM approval AFAIK, so it's not 100% definite yet that it will actually happen.

If it does happen, they will not be "Freeview" channels as they won't be free, & they would not be viewable using a Freeview box or IDTV. You'd require a special Sky DTT box with MPEG-4 support & Sky's proprietary conditional access system.

freesat from Sky - A new way to get free digital satellite TV

The last time I saw Sky Freesat promoted was Christmas.
      I bought my sister a 2 package (non premium)gift,
standard box and installation for 70 for 6 months.
In June I pay another 20 for a Freesat card as she
cannot afford a subscription and they don't have Freeview
      in her area.

      My Max. Faster, Cheaper, Better.
