Re: Sky+HD Box Warranty?

I'm afraid you should get a "refurbished" one, it comes in a brown box and has been returned by somebody else and alledgely "fixed" by Sky.

You may get lucky though depending if the engineer hasn't got any refurbs in the Van, I got 3 new HD boxes in a row until I got this one. Even have the 3 pretty boxes to show for it (red, green and blue)

Re: Sky+HD Box Warranty?

If it is less than 6 months old then any fault is assumed to have been there since day one. Therefore, I think you are entitled to a replacement new box. You 'bought' a new box, not a refurbed one!

I doubt that any ever get repaired other than replacing the hard drive. It's cheaper to replace the motherboard than send them into a specialist. It's just not cost effective these days, bearing in mind Sky will be paying peanuts for them.
I'm on my third box, all new.

Re: Sky+HD Box Warranty?

As the original boxes cost Sky in the region of £500-600, I don't know how much the new ones cost but I can assume that are still taking a big hit on them.

Generally the 3 main repairs will be PSU, Hard Drive and motherboard, but boxes will be repaired and Sky have a fairly complecated cost/benefit equation on boxes, so if one comes back too many times then it is sent back to the makers.
