Second hand HD boxes sounds strange to me. Even the first ones sold will still be under 12 month contract.

      Unless they are "refurbished"?

Leave well alone if second hand!! Chances are they have been replaced under warranty and the knackered boxes have found their way out into eBay land.

Or worst still, they were nicked from underneath someones TV!!

Plenty of 'cheaper' brand new boxes on eBay. I got mine for 189 delivered. It was brand new, VERY quiet and works perfect.

What brand is it homer? I'm currently on Sky+ but considering HD as I've just got a new TV & don't fancy paying Sky 299 for a new box.

      Re: 2nd hand HD boxes

If you've already got a Sky+ set up, then you are better off going through an authorised Sky dealer like Pennine Plus. I got my Sky HD box off them for 200 including delivery. AV Forums Home is a good source of information on getting Sky HD cheaply and how to do the self install. I only had one problem with my self install, which pennine sorted out for me over the phone (Sky were useless as usual "Box must be faulty sir").

In answer to your rather confusing post, yes my box is legit. As in It is not stolen, it was purchased from a Authorised Sky installer complete with VAT receipt and 12 months warranty.

      How is that not legit?

I know the box 'should' cost more but do you seriously think an independant retailer/installer has to pay 299 for the box to sell it on? I think not!

That's probably why an established supplier/installer such as pennine plus can sell theirs for 199 delivered or are they not 'Legit' either?

MickL There is only 1 brand available at the moment and that would be the Thomson

      Re: 2nd hand HD boxes

Until very recently- the boxes cost the suppliers 239.
So unless the company you bought yours from is doing you a favour - or you have very recently bought it; its a dodgy deal!

The boxes are currently retailing at 199. If you get it cheaper than this it means sky are subsidising the retailer on the grounds that you have about 10 days to sign onto a Sky HD subscription of 10 per month.

Currys may do this if you ask.
This company (Freeview and Satellite TV Installation, Leicestershire - Midsat UK ) may do it - ring them and you will get your box for about 164 ( 149 + 15 delivery - choose home install )- this again is dependent of you taking a HD subscription with Sky... not dodgy Ron on Ebay!!
