      New Sky + Subscription

      Greetings,

Before I tackle the Sky system and try to speak to a human being, does anyone know if it is still possible to take out a Sky+ HD subscription.

I have my old DRX895 which I'd like to reactivate and am not interested in SkyQ.

I also have my old viewing card (red one, beginning with 7), although it's not been used for 14 months.

I can log on to 'My Sky' with my sky user id, but the account number and viewing card details are gone.

      thanks

      Rob

My Mum, cancelled her Sky channels about 2 years ago, but kept on the Sky+ Subscription so she can still record and playback, it’s supposed to be 10 a month but she’s managed to wing it for free since she cancelled based on the fact she kept the telephone service. She doesn’t sub to HD she just gets the free HD channels. When or if they start charging we will probably get her a freesat or freeview box.

Spoke to customer services today, all new requests for TV service are for 'Q' only.
I can see as a business model they need to push forwards, but there must be millions of Sky+ boxes out there , so the systems have to be in place to service them.
      Their financial loss.

I may be wrong but check this page:
FREESAT from Sky - Call now to order.

      In particular:
Have your own equipment? All you need is a viewing card for a one-off payment of 25.
      and
There's no annual contract and it's easy to upgrade to any Sky digital package once you have Freesat from Sky
      .

Once there is a viewing card registered on the account it should be possible to add a Sky+ subscription though without a viewing package or special offer it will be chargeable. The Ts & Cs state:
Which channels and services will I be able to receive?
You will be able to receive any of the Free to View Channels (including interactive services). As the Free to View Channels are supplied by third party broadcasters their availability, and the content of such channels, is outside our control. To receive Sky digital channels or services via your Digital Satellite System you must enter into a Sky digital subscription contract. The terms and conditions which apply to Sky digital are set out in the contract below. Once you have read these, call Sky on 03442 410 595 for information about packages and to upgrade.
All prices stated are inclusive of VAT (where applicable) and are correct at time of print (February, 2013).
It does concern me somewhat that they have not been updated since early 2013 but by speaking to the Freesat team you will at least bypass Attractions who are only interested in selling SkyQ.

      seawright / reddwarfcrew:

Thanks for this, I will give them a call tomorrow and report back.
I'm sure this used to be 'automated' via a web page in the past.
If it is possible to get a new card and then pick up a subscription this way,
it will be a tad annoying having to shell out 25 for the card when, with a 2nd hand contract the card was sent for free,
knowing you'd signed up to a minimum contract term.
      Progress eh!

      Re: New Sky + Subscription

Well, I'm moving forward, 'Free Sat From Sky' card ordered.
I was assured that once this card is activated I will be able to upgrade to a full subscription, but they
will have to send out another viewing card at this point!

We'll see, if it all goes ends up, I'll email the CEO office and request a refund and suggest they get the website updated.

      Rob

Edit: Just realised I should have posted all this in the Joining/ Leaving Sky thread.
If it's a problem, perhaps a 'Mod' could move the thread?

      Re: New Sky + Subscription

Just a suggestion, before emailing the CEO office, see if the agent who upgrades your subscription would be prepared to add a 25 credit to your Sky account to reimburse you for the payment you were required to make in order to take out a 2nd hand Sky subscription.

      Re: New Sky + Subscription

Well I have to report a success.
Viewing card arrived today, so back on the phone to Sky.
Spoke to 3 people , jumped through many hoops and I have a full Sky
      subscription on my DRX895 box.
The 25 charge for the card should be refunded as well.

Result, and thanks again for the 'heads up'.
